Learn and enjoy folk dances from around the world at 7:45 pm any Friday night.

The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op welcomes you to learn fun dances like these from around the world. We dance recreationally in casual clothes and have a lot of fun. Sometimes we perform or have festivals where some of us wear costumes. International folk dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. Sometimes we do zany things like this combination dance/water fight. No partner, special clothing, or multi-week commitment is needed. Just show up any Friday in casual cloths and comfortable shoes. People of all ages and dance ability will enjoy dancing with us. Our group has about 30 people dancing most nights.

The majority of our members are middle aged or beyond, but we have some younger members too and people occasionally bring their children. Many of our members are single, but we also have a number of couples. (Most couples dance with other people as well.) Some of our dancers have danced professionally and others had never danced before they joined us. Most of our dances are easy to learn, but we have a few that are quite vigorous and/or complicated, but well worth the effort. Dancers feel free to sit down and socialize when a dance is too difficult for them. No one will pressure you into doing a dance that seems too difficult for you, but we provide lots of help and encouragement. Some of the music we dance to is so beautiful that it will take you breath away! Our members have formed many long-term friendships and, over the years, we have become a community. We dance every Friday on a beautiful wooden floor at the Throop Memorial Church, 300 S. Los Robles (at Del Mar) in Pasadena. Lessons begin promptly Fridays at 7:45 pm and continue until 9 pm, followed by refreshments and more dancing until 11 pm. We would appreciate it if you RSVP, but it's not strictly necessary. Many of our regular members are not members of Meetup. We usually have over 30 people dance with us , even though the RSVPs on this site may say only 3 or 4.

Your second night is free and you don't have to commit to a series of lessons.

I think everyone had a terrific time. The new dancers got to learn some fun dances, and it was very nice to see their enjoyment. The same dances will be taught again the next three weeks. The more experienced dancers had the pleasure of learning an especially beautiful and graceful dance presented so well by Valerie. The program after teaching consisted of a delightful variety of dances. And for those who weren't dancing, there were always other friendly people to talk to.

Wonderful! We danced some beautiful dances. Ten new people dance with us. Most had never folk danced before, but some had done other types of dancing. Most participated in the intermediate teaching as well as the introductory teaching. Next week we are dancing in a different hall because the floor at Throop is being refinished. See PasadenaFolkDanceCoop.org and click on Upcoming Events for more information. Directions about this temporary location (March 14) are also on the Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op's Meetup site.

We have a fun evening planned starting with the introductory teaching at 7:45. We will learn some delightful dances that will appeal to people of all levels of experience, so I hope some newcomers will join us (as on most Fridays). We will teach the same dances all month long, so there are plenty of opportunities to learn them. The program after teaching will include a nice mix of dances, including some that everyone will enjoy. Combine that with a very friendly group, and we are assured of a good time.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
