Learn and enjoy folk dances from around the world at 7:45 pm any Friday night.

The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op welcomes you to learn fun dances like these from around the world. We dance recreationally in casual clothes and have a lot of fun. Sometimes we perform or have festivals where some of us wear costumes. International folk dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. Sometimes we do zany things like this combination dance/water fight. No partner, special clothing, or multi-week commitment is needed. Just show up any Friday in casual cloths and comfortable shoes. People of all ages and dance ability will enjoy dancing with us. Our group has about 30 people dancing most nights.

The majority of our members are middle aged or beyond, but we have some younger members too and people occasionally bring their children. Many of our members are single, but we also have a number of couples. (Most couples dance with other people as well.) Some of our dancers have danced professionally and others had never danced before they joined us. Most of our dances are easy to learn, but we have a few that are quite vigorous and/or complicated, but well worth the effort. Dancers feel free to sit down and socialize when a dance is too difficult for them. No one will pressure you into doing a dance that seems too difficult for you, but we provide lots of help and encouragement. Some of the music we dance to is so beautiful that it will take you breath away! Our members have formed many long-term friendships and, over the years, we have become a community. We dance every Friday on a beautiful wooden floor at the Throop Memorial Church, 300 S. Los Robles (at Del Mar) in Pasadena. Lessons begin promptly Fridays at 7:45 pm and continue until 9 pm, followed by refreshments and more dancing until 11 pm. We would appreciate it if you RSVP, but it's not strictly necessary. Many of our regular members are not members of Meetup. We usually have over 30 people dance with us , even though the RSVPs on this site may say only 3 or 4.

Your second night is free and you don't have to commit to a series of lessons.

I think everyone had a really good time. We had a very nice group, including people who had never danced with us before and others who had danced with the group for several decades. There was a delightful selection of fun, pretty, and exciting dances, some easy and some challenging, from many countries.

It was a an especially good night of footwork, friends, and food. All of the teaching went well, with four dancers new to our group attending, along with a number of relatively new people who are catching on quickly. Many good conversations took place while others danced. The food was especially wonderful because the person bringing it baked everything from scratch. I can still remember the macaroons.

I'm looking forward to a very enjoyable evening. WIth its friendly people and wide variety of neat dances, this group always provides an entertaining experience. We usually have some people who have never danced with us before and people who have been in the group for decades, and we have something for everyone. Introductory teaching starts at 7:45 with a cute, joyful dance. I can't wait until Friday!
