Learn and enjoy folk dances from around the world at 7:45 pm any Friday night.

The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op welcomes you to learn fun dances like these from around the world. We dance recreationally in casual clothes and have a lot of fun. Sometimes we perform or have festivals where some of us wear costumes. International folk dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. Sometimes we do zany things like this combination dance/water fight. No partner, special clothing, or multi-week commitment is needed. Just show up any Friday in casual cloths and comfortable shoes. People of all ages and dance ability will enjoy dancing with us. Our group has about 30 people dancing most nights.

The majority of our members are middle aged or beyond, but we have some younger members too and people occasionally bring their children. Many of our members are single, but we also have a number of couples. (Most couples dance with other people as well.) Some of our dancers have danced professionally and others had never danced before they joined us. Most of our dances are easy to learn, but we have a few that are quite vigorous and/or complicated, but well worth the effort. Dancers feel free to sit down and socialize when a dance is too difficult for them. No one will pressure you into doing a dance that seems too difficult for you, but we provide lots of help and encouragement. Some of the music we dance to is so beautiful that it will take you breath away! Our members have formed many long-term friendships and, over the years, we have become a community. We dance every Friday on a beautiful wooden floor at the Throop Memorial Church, 300 S. Los Robles (at Del Mar) in Pasadena. Lessons begin promptly Fridays at 7:45 pm and continue until 9 pm, followed by refreshments and more dancing until 11 pm. We would appreciate it if you RSVP, but it's not strictly necessary. Many of our regular members are not members of Meetup. We usually have over 30 people dance with us , even though the RSVPs on this site may say only 3 or 4.

Your second night is free and you don't have to commit to a series of lessons.

Everyone had a really good time. We had a nice group of friendly people, as we always do. The dances that are being taught this month (the same ones every week, allowing people plenty of opportunity to learn them) are fun, and it was good to see such a wide range of experience, from new dancers to experienced, participating. I'm already looking forward to next Friday!

I had so much fun partnering Fonda. She was very patient with me for the couple teaching ~ I also enjoyed a Balkan dance I had not seen in over a decade ~

We learned dances from Taiwan, Greece, and Poland. Afterwards we had refreshments, danced the dances that were taught again and then danced many other dances from all over the world.

I can't wait! This friendly group always makes Friday evenings the best of the week. We will start introductory teaching promptly at 7:45 with a perfect choice for new dancers that's pretty and entertaining enough to please more experienced dancers too. The rest of the teaching and the program of dances through the end of the evening will appeal to dancers of all levels. I'm confident that everyone will have a delightful evening!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
