Learn and enjoy folk dances from around the world at 7:45 pm any Friday night.

The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op welcomes you to learn fun dances like these from around the world. We dance recreationally in casual clothes and have a lot of fun. Sometimes we perform or have festivals where some of us wear costumes. International folk dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. Sometimes we do zany things like this combination dance/water fight. No partner, special clothing, or multi-week commitment is needed. Just show up any Friday in casual cloths and comfortable shoes. People of all ages and dance ability will enjoy dancing with us. Our group has about 30 people dancing most nights.

The majority of our members are middle aged or beyond, but we have some younger members too and people occasionally bring their children. Many of our members are single, but we also have a number of couples. (Most couples dance with other people as well.) Some of our dancers have danced professionally and others had never danced before they joined us. Most of our dances are easy to learn, but we have a few that are quite vigorous and/or complicated, but well worth the effort. Dancers feel free to sit down and socialize when a dance is too difficult for them. No one will pressure you into doing a dance that seems too difficult for you, but we provide lots of help and encouragement. Some of the music we dance to is so beautiful that it will take you breath away! Our members have formed many long-term friendships and, over the years, we have become a community. We dance every Friday on a beautiful wooden floor at the Throop Memorial Church, 300 S. Los Robles (at Del Mar) in Pasadena. Lessons begin promptly Fridays at 7:45 pm and continue until 9 pm, followed by refreshments and more dancing until 11 pm. We would appreciate it if you RSVP, but it's not strictly necessary. Many of our regular members are not members of Meetup. We usually have over 30 people dance with us , even though the RSVPs on this site may say only 3 or 4.

Your second night is free and you don't have to commit to a series of lessons.

We had a terrific group of friendly people, and everyone had a really good time, from our first-time participants to our long-time members. We learned fun dances (and will continue with the same dances for the rest of the month) and had a great program of many more neat dances for the rest of the evening.

The teaching was excellent and the dances were infectious. We had a good turnout of enthusiastic people and the moon was one day short of being full. We marveled at its beauty when leaving tonight.

Introductory teaching will be the Greek line dance Syrtos, Cafe Alhambra from Israel, and the Russian couple dance Alexandrovska. Intermediate teaching will be the Croatian couple dance Klincek. All of these dances will be taught for the rest of the month.

Newcomers and experienced dancers alike will enjoy the teaching (which starts at 7:45) as well as the program after teaching. Throughout the evening, dances will range from very easy to challenging (during which many of us can socialize while a few people dance). With a friendly group of people and fun and beautiful dances from around the world, we have a delightful Friday in store.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
