Learn and enjoy folk dances from around the world at 7:45 pm any Friday night.

Tonight will be a party night with an all request program except for the dozen or so dances played by our Fifth Friday Band. Refreshments will be Potluck. The Pasadena Folk Dance Co-op welcomes you to learn fun dances like these from around the world. We dance recreationally in casual clothes and have a lot of fun. Sometimes we perform or have festivals where some of us wear costumes. International folk dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. Sometimes we do zany things like this combination dance/water fight. No partner, special clothing, or multi-week commitment is needed. Just show up any Friday in casual cloths and comfortable shoes. People of all ages and dance ability will enjoy dancing with us. Our group has about 30 people dancing most nights.

The majority of our members are middle aged or beyond, but we have some younger members too and people occasionally bring their children. Many of our members are single, but we also have a number of couples. (Most couples dance with other people as well.) Some of our dancers have danced professionally and others had never danced before they joined us. Most of our dances are easy to learn, but we have a few that are quite vigorous and/or complicated, but well worth the effort. Dancers feel free to sit down and socialize when a dance is too difficult for them. No one will pressure you into doing a dance that seems too difficult for you, but we provide lots of help and encouragement. Some of the music we dance to is so beautiful that it will take you breath away! Our members have formed many long-term friendships and, over the years, we have become a community. We dance every Friday on a beautiful wooden floor at the Throop Memorial Church, 300 S. Los Robles (at Del Mar) in Pasadena. Lessons begin promptly Fridays at 7:45 pm and continue until 9 pm, followed by refreshments and more dancing until 11 pm. We would appreciate it if you RSVP, but it's not strictly necessary. Many of our regular members are not members of Meetup. We usually have over 30 people dance with us , even though the RSVPs on this site may say only 3 or 4.

Your second night is free and you don't have to commit to a series of lessons.

We did a great many fun dances and enjoyed neat music! The group was a little smaller than usual, with 32 attending, but everyone had a really good time. One member who had been away for months came back, and that was very nice. We also were fortunate to have a newcomer (as we frequently do).

Because this is the fifth Friday of the month, we're having a party! (What better justification could there be?) Our program will be all-request, so we get to enjoy everyone's favorite dances (including yours). We'll also have live music from our favorite musicians -- members of our own group! Anyone who has folk danced before should have a terrific time. If you haven't danced, it may be challenging, because we won't have our usual teaching. But if we have new dancers, we will request some dances that are enjoyed by people of all levels of experience (and our programs on all other Fridays always include such dances). In any case, we are sure to have a friendly, welcoming group, beautiful music, and neat dances from around the world. I'm looking forward to a delightful evening.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
