The Passive House California Board invites members and friends to attend an informal dinner, art show and social mixer in honor of our visiting guest from the UK: Nick Grant, Technical Director of the UK Passivhaus Trust. Nick will be arriving in SF for the second stop of his tour of the western continent. He will visit Canada, California and Oregon to present at various events on his experience with building large-scale Passive House schools, offices and co-housing projects in the UK. In addition to being a Certified Passive House Consultant, Nick is also a tinkerer, inventor and 'mad scientist' engineer. For this reason, we're hosting our event in the studio of Nemo Gould, one of the members of the Lost & Foundry Studio: a collective of artists and craftsmen creating static and dynamic art from found objects. I do not think I can walk into a second hand store or place like Urban Ore without thinking, "How would Nemo see what's on the shelves?" I walked along the back table, pulling little pieces together around a pair of tongs to make into a figurine, just to get a sense of how he approaches a project. I'm totally inadequate! I grabbed the cap of a pitcher, but couldn't see what he might think to use the pitcher for. Then I turned to find he'd laid out a duplicate pitcher and had started creating this sea anemone, or Medusa structure with small pipes. So amazing where his mind goes. I'm not worthy....! Terrific place to play and learn.

And Nick was likewise excellent. Really enjoyed seeing the progression of learning over the course of the several schools. And I do like his mindset around beauty within constraints. Designers, take note!

Lovely event- Thanks Nemo, Nick and Bronwyn.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
