Discussion about Meditation

What is meditation? Are there different forms of meditation? What are the benefits on my daily life? I understand there are benefits but...how do I quiet the mind – there are so many thoughts!? How do I get started?

At our last meeting, we explored the connection between mind, body and spirit. During that discussion, there was so much interest in meditation that we decided to devote this meeting exclusively to that subject.

Hope to see you there. I think it will be a very interesting and informative evening.

NOTE: The community center is located on the upper level at Giants Food Store...go to the Starbucks stand and you will find stairs leading to the upper level. We will have the room from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. If you would like to arrive before 7:00 and socialize, that would be great. You may bring coffee or food from Giant's deli if you like to eat before the meeting.

As a member of the group on Monday evening, I feel the need to weigh in on what transpired with regards to D. I really felt shocked at the request for D. to not talk so much. He was asked questions on 2 occasions to which he replied. The information he imparted was certainly beyond my scope but I found it interesting as I did what others had to say. For me, the good vibe did not return after this incident as I couldn’t help but feel for D. who seemed wounded. I just don’t feel that the folks who shared after D. retreated would have been impeded had D. not been asked to reduce his comments. My husband and I plan to come to the next meeting as we find the subjects fascinating. I hope that if D. is so inclined, he will feel welcome to return. Susan, I’m so glad you brought this to the fore. It was the elephant in the room and did need to be addressed. Thank you!

Okay everyone. It was a lovely group with lovely people. I'm sorry I mentioned the incident. Drop it ! I felt like it was the elephant in the room.

I enjoyed the discussion and listening to what everyone had to offer. I must say, I was quite taken aback when one member verbally attacked D. I would never have expected this kind of behavior coming from a Spiritual/Meditation Group. I think I can say several of us were mortified! That killed the vibe and shifted everyone's energy. ;(

I thought I should clarify a little about heart V/S intellect. Some people seem to think that the person that knows the most spiritual facts wins....to me that is just intellect.
To me a truth is just spiritual trivia unless it touches my heart, gives me a deeper understanding of life, a deeper feeling of love or more compassion for others.
When we find a truth that lifts us we should make that truth part of our daily lives.

As a newcomer to the group, I think you are all correct in your perception/reaction to the incident in question. Personally, I think a lot of good energy is being wasted on this .I think is up to the group coordinator to oversee or control how a session is flowing.

What a wonderful discussion on meditation/contemplation and the reasons for doing so. Thank you to everyone for sharing the HU Song. The love that came through from all participants as a collective channel was amazing.

I saw emails from Susan, Dean and Juanita. I agree with their comments and concerns. Keep our meetup healthy and a open platform for free expression of everyone's opinion. I think, in spirit of our Pathway forget as a dream and keep our motivation intact. Namaste.

I enjoyed the meeting. It had a lot of value for me. I didn't get the sense of an attack in either "speaking up" incident, one of which was mine. Expressing an opinion that may or may not be popular with a group is a difficult thing to do and the words don't always come out the way we wish they would. There was a lot of focus on love as an intrical part of meditation. I'm happy to say that I came away with a sense of Love, connection and sharing. Thank you.

    Excellent meeting.....Thank you everyone.

I enjoyed the discussion about how meditation and spirituality/religion coexist. I assume that many of us have different spiritual beliefs but during our “humming” time we all came together as one humanity in the spirit of togetherness (and it felt good).. I also have an interest in the “Oneness Deeksha” experience and am wondering if the group would consider letting someone from one of the local groups introduce it. Dr. Van Tharp who is a world renowned personal development coach and author suggested I look into it. Nearly 20 years ago Dr. Tharp's coaching dramatically altered my life for the better. As a result, I highly regard most of his recommendations.

I look forward to seeing all of you again soon.

    Best regards,
    Dean Hoffman

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
