Discussion about Spirituality

The Meet Up website experienced some difficulties recently and some members may not have received notice of this meeting that was sent out recently.

What is spirituality?  A concise dictionary description is “something not of this physical nor material world” or “concern for what is unseen and intangible as opposed to physical and mundane.”  It has been associated with various religions but seems to break through the boundaries and walls of religion.  Many will say it is composed of qualities like love, compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, a sense of harmony.  Some say it refers to our inner self, a place that transcends our material world.  Others say it is a sense of who we are, where we came from, the meaning and purpose of our lives.  Whatever it is, it certainly doesn’t seem to be anything that can be explained in scientific terms or put into a neat little box.  Perhaps that is because it involves deeply personal, subjective experiences.  I invite each of you who are coming to our meeting to reflect a bit about what spirituality means to you?  Have you experienced an event or moment in your life that could only be explained as spiritual because there was no other way to explain it?  Have you found yourself saying or perhaps hearing others say, “I am not really religious but I am spiritual”…what does that mean?  “That (whatever that may be) touched my soul, my spirit."  “It touched my heart." "The spirit moved me."  I find it interesting that we say “I want to be more spiritual."  No one ever says “I want to be more body”.  So what is this thing that we seek to be more of…this something that we can’t see but can feel...this something that somehow...we just know is there.  Another thought to ponder, maybe we can't become more spiritual ...maybe all we can do is become more aware of what is already there.

I invite you to come our meeting and we will talk about it.  Hopefully, there will be some of you who will share your thoughts on the above questions.

NOTE: The community center is located on the upper level at Giants Food Store...go to the Starbucks stand and you will find stairs leading to the upper level. We will have the room from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. If you would like to arrive before 7:00 and socialize, that would be great. You may bring coffee or food from Giant's deli if you like to eat before the meeting.

Another great evening of discussion while sharing our thoughts and experiences on Spirituality. At the request of many at the meeting, you can find Jay's (Jayaram) thoughts on his personal spiritual journey. He was inspired to write down these thoughts as he contemplated Spirituality. Click on Discussions at the top of the page - then message board - click on the folder Pathways discussion forum - and there it is.

This is the second notice for this meeting. If you have already responded, you do not need to respond again. I have made note of those attending. There have been 11 responding so far. The count showing up may not reflect those members. The main Meet Up website experienced technical problems and some email notices did not get sent out.
