My fellow riders, if you like looking at antique motorcycles, a long back roads ride, St. Augustine and supporting a Veterans charity, this is the ride you do not want to miss.
The 15th Annual Riding into History is to be held at the World Golf Hall of Fame grounds in St. Augustine. This event will feature[masked] antique/vintage motorcycles (1901 – 1980) from all over the world. There are many sponsors for the event and each will have a booth set up for you to stop by and see their company. There will also be plenty of motorcycle related vendors providing just about anything motorcycle you can possible need (from entire bikes and bike parts to food).
On Saturday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m., there is a Historic Charity ride planned from Jacksonville Adamec Harley Davidson to the World Golf Hall of Fame (about 11 miles) to kick off the event. To participate in the ride is $15, this gets you into the event, provides VIP parking and $5 of your fee goes directly to the charity. If you do not participate in the charity ride, then entrance cost is $10.00.
All the proceeds from this event benefit a local Jacksonville charity “K9s for Warriors” a 5013C charity. K9s for Warriors takes dogs from local area shelters and trains them in basic obedience and certifies them a bona fide Service Dog. They then provide the dog free, to a deserving Veteran who needs a buddy to get past any brain injuries and or PTSD issues they are having getting on with their lives.
Lodging is either camping or hotels/resorts are offering a great rate for participants of the event (see links below). We are going to stay at the Comfort Suites (about $100 per room), this also still provides a free hotel breakfast.
Our plan is to depart Tampa on Friday May 16th at 1:00 p.m. from our house (contact us for our address if you plan on going). We will take Hwy 41 north to Inverness and then north on Hwy 200 until we meet I-75. I-75 north 8 miles to the exit for Hwy 326 and take HWY 326 to Hwy 301. We will follow Hwy 301 north to the town of Citra, at Citra we will take Hwy 318 east, Hwy 310 and Hwy 315 to Hwy 19 and into Palatka. From Palatka we will take Hwy 207 to I-95. We will take I-95 5 miles to the exit for the World Golf Hall of Fame. We will take breaks in Inverness (VFW), and Palatka (VFW). Gas breaks will be as we need them, if we need more breaks as well. Plan is to arrive there around 7:00 p.m.. Once we check into the hotel(s) or campsites, you are on your own. We do plan on having Friday dinner at Harrys Restaurant in old St. Augustine and you are all welcomed to come along. Then for a drink at the American Legion Post 37 (next to Harrys, on the water).
Saturday morning we will eat breakfast and depart the hotel at 9:00 a.m. for an 11 mile ride to the Adamec Harley Dealer. We will register for the ride and get our passes for the event. At 10:00 a.m., the historic charity ride will depart, we should be at the event by 10:30 a.m.. Once at the event you are again on your own to enjoy the activities. At 6:00 p.m. we plan on riding back to again to old St. Augustine and have dinner at the Raintree restaurant. You are all welcomed to come along, or to enjoy St. Augustine in your own way.
Sunday morning is again hotel breakfast followed by a 10:00 a.m. departure to head back to Tampa. The return route is a different one that will take us through the National Forest and will keep us off the interstate. Plan to be home between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.
