Full Throttle 17th Annual Soaked and Sore Ass Run

Those of us who participated in last years SASA run to Savannah last year would probably agree that it was…memorable. Assaulted by relentless tropical storm rain, winds, and lightning, we finally managed to slosh our way into Savannah and claim our right to wear the patch - eight challenging hours after leaving the start line. On the surface, this year’s event seems rather mild in comparison, running only from St. Petersburg to Cocoa Beach. It is likely, though, that the actual route will have us meandering through the middle of the state before reaching the end point in Cocoa. It will be hot, probably rainy, and likely to cover 350+ miles before its over. Rain gear is highly recommended, although it did absolutely no good last year. http://www.floridafullthrottle.com/2014/03/sore-ass-poker-run-2014/

Entry is $35 for rider or $60 for couple, and will net you a T-shirt, Patch and Certificate of Survival (oops…that says Certificate of Completion). Reservations at host hotel should be made early, as the SASA runs usually have a large number of participants:

The flyer says to mention the Sore Ass Run or Full Throttle Magazine for ‘discounted rates’. They are advertising $89 plus tax, etc on the Full Throttle Site.

We should meet at 8:30 a.m. at Skyway Jacks in order to complete registration and be ready for KSU @ 9:30. https://plus.google.com/115816775833031282792/about?gl=us&hl=en

Had fun with a great group of people but the stops sucked and the hotel was the pits!!

The riding was great, and we had fun because of the Patriotic Riders that were there; however, I wasn't thrilled with the stops Full Throttle chose, or the hotel. So, we agree next year if we want a sore ass, we will decide when and how we get it - we won't do the FT SSA again - BUT at least we can say we did it and at least we have fun riding this weekend! AND on any more rides, I will make sure everyone has my cell # and visa-versa so we have no problems meeting for dinner! :)

I'm not sure about another repeat of this ride for me. The ride this year was definitely hot, long, wet and what the ride should be. The locations they picked as stops really weren't that good and some were icky. Enjoyed everyone's company.

With only this year and last year to compare, I have to agree. I was really disappointed with the hotel - who doesn't have decent AC? The steak at the hotel next door was good, though.

I am such a glutton for punishment - I made my return trip part of the Tour of Honor challenge. I went BACK to Okechobee, BACK to that same intersection at US27 and Hwy 70, down US27 again (yes, same speed), then over to Ft Myers and up I-75 home. Round trip mileage for me - 725 miles.

NWS says that dry air will cover Florida this weekend, so the rain chances will be very low. Its going to be a hot ride, though - low to mid-90s.

OK...all the stops are in, and of course we are not going to follow their route to the letter, but we should not have to deal with traffic/signals except for the first part through Sarasota, and maybe along the East Coast, but we can avoid some of that if we prefer.
