Tea and Talk

Hello everyone and welcome to Tea and Talk - a chance to meet and chat to members of London's homeless community over a cup of tea and possibly a biscuit or 2...

Here's how it works: we'll meet at 6.30pm. We'll split into groups of about 4 people, and each group will go on a little wander round various areas of London, stopping to offer a cup of tea and chat to any homeless people we meet on our travels. After about 90 minutes we'll meet up again at a nearby pub to share experiences and maybe a drink or 3.  The official Tea and Talk pub is The Two Chairmen 1 Warwick House Street, Trafalgar Square, SW1Y 5AT.

Where do we meet?  Tea and Talk has two meeting points - 1) the steps of St Martin in the Fields, in Trafalgar Square, and 2) the underground thoroughfare of Old Street Station (see the map in the 'meeting type places' album, under 'Photos' above!).  You can go to whichever you want, but it's helpful if you post to say which one you're going to so we can be sure we have enough people at each.

The aim of 'Tea and Talk' is simply to have non-judgemental human-to-human conversation with members of the homeless community - something that happens all too seldom in our busy city, leaving some homeless people feeling very isolated. A simple cup of tea and a chat can help to change that feeling.

No previous experience is necessary: just a willingness to challenge preconceptions and have a chat. Each group will have at least one experienced member who knows the route - and the ropes!

You don't have to bring anything at all other than a non-judgemental attitude and a willingness to get involved. But if you would like to help out materially, wholesome food such as sandwiches, pasties, pies, fruit etc are always appreciated, as are dark-coloured clothing (easier to keep clean) - socks and boxers are particularly appreciated - and basic toiletries such as shower gel & deodorant go down well too.

HOWEVER: the conversation is MUCH more important than the stuff.

For more information, here are numbers of our 'regulars' - feel free to give any of them a call!

****AAARGH**** So, it turns out the reason I have been rubbish at appearing this month is cos my calendar sync broke, and when my phone and my calendar tell me different stuff I get confused. Hence I'm actually not sure I can make tonight - a member of my team is leaving and we're taking him for a drink. If I can get there and back in time I'll join a group but will be late. If not I have a big bag of useful stuff under my desk for next week. Again, I am a moron and I am sorry. I blame March and Google Sync. Also... I have literally a zillion things for the carboot... Where are we going and when? I'll need to get someone to give me a lift somewhere with it all...

*** Car Boot Sale Stuff Callout***

    - If anyone has any stuff they'd like to donate to the car boot fundraiser, please bring it along tonight meetup and pass it on to one of the 'booters' - currently me, Tom and possibly Monica. If you've got too much to carry - let me know and we'll arrange something separately. Thanks!!!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
