**Please note that this event is Thanksgiving Weekend so take that into consideration as you commit to this volunteer event.
****ALSO: There will be a dinner planning session on Saturday morning, November 9th @ 10 AM at the Ronald McDonald House - all volunteers are expected to attend to help plan the dinner. If you have not been to the house this is a great time to see it!
What we will be doing: Through the 'Meals from the Heart' program at the Oak Lawn Ronald McDonald House, in their fully-equipped kitchens, we as a group, will plan, purchase, cook, and serve a wonderful meal for the families staying at the house as their child is healing at the hospital across the street from the house.
We will plan a meal for about 40 people - and we also will enjoy the meal when we are there!
The house has a beautiful kitchen fully decked out with multiple appliances & cooking stations & sinks and a full dining room for guests to enjoy heartwarming & stomach-filling meals.

‘Meals from the Heart’ Program:
Volunteer to provide a home-cooked meal for our families
As the saying goes, “the kitchen is the heart of every home”. The meals you provide bring love into the Ronald McDonald House every day, allowing families to unwind, de-stress, and fortify their bodies to be at their best for their child in the hospital.
Meals from the Heart volunteers work as a group to plan a menu, purchase the ingredients, and prepare the meal in our full service kitchen, allowing families to find nourishment and comfort in a shared meal.
Ronald McDonald Houses in the Chicagoland area:
Our four current Houses provide a ‘home away from home’ to keep families together. Located near Advocate Children’s Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center, University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, and the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the Houses allow families to eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need - just blocks from where their child is being treated. This year we provided over 30,000 nights to families, offering them care and comfort during their hours of greatest need. While we suggest a donation of $10 per night, no family is ever turned away if they are unable to pay.
