It's been many decades since the nuclear non-proliferation and test ban treaties of my youth. Did you know the ubiquitous peace symbol derives from the semaphore code for ND... nuclear disarmament? While this issue has been eclipsed by a host of social justice, liberation, and environmental movements, it remains one of the most perilous existential threats to human civilization. I am hopeful that people's attention can once again be brought to focus on this danger.
My activism began with the 'Ban the Bomb' movement in the late 1950's. I was all of eight years old, sitting on the stoop w/ my mother in NYC during an air raid (yes, we had those!) in defiance of the Civil Defense marshall urging us to take shelter.
