Poll Opened Responses

We are organizing a working group to focus on Israel-Palestine issues. When do you want to have meetings? (Only people who are interested in working on this issue should respond to this poll) We will have a monthly meeting, and arrange additional meetings via e-mail, conference call or in-person as needed.

Assuming that there's interest in having an active group of organizers planning actions and other events, when can you meet? This doesn't have to be strictly work--we could meet at a diner or, depending on the size of the group & how people feel about it, at someone's apartment (and bring snacks or do a potluck). Friday evening, Saturday brunch & Sunday brunch are off the table out of respect for people who attend Islamic, Jewish or Christian religious services. (I hope I covered the bases...are there other days/times of the week where there are special services to be sensitive about? It's a little hard to work around 5 salats/day, but we'll do what we can to be respectful of things like that.)

On our calendar, we have been posting things like demonstrations, lectures, cultural events related to peace, film screenings, etc. We will continue to do that, but if this meetup is to develop into a cohesive group, we need to get together regularly to set goals, plan activities, develop an organizational structure, etc., and really commit to doing work. How much time each month would you be willing to commit to meeting as a group? Let's say we tried to keep meetings to 60-90 minutes.

Our name is "The New York Peace in the Middle East Meetup," not just the "Israel-Palestine Peace Meetup. Many people are interested in working on Israel-Palestine issues, but there's a lot of other stuff happening in the Middle East, too...and stuff happening domestically in the U.S. that is related, like the "war on terror." What would you like to see as our priorities?

We had our first organizatonal meetup a couple weeks ago, and the five people in the room felt that the Israel/Palestine conflict was a high priority area of work...and there was interest in activism, dialogue with Zionists and Palestinians about the conflict & education. What do you think?
