Mount Abraham (Maine- NE67)

  • Jul 14, 2013 · 8:00 AM

TRIP SUMMARY

Mount Abraham is an extraordinary peak with four major brook crossings and an exposed ridge. We will be hiking via the Fire Warden Trail- 9 miles round trip which should take us about 5 1/2 hours. We will be hiking at a moderate pace around 2 mph with a few short breaks and more time at the summit for lunch.

Environment: Mountain weather is subject to rapid changes and extreme conditions so be prepared (see Gear Info below). As such, please note that the forecast or conditions found during the hike may lead to changes in our plans, even an event cancellation. The mountain will be there another day. To learn more about the weather specific to this event, please see these MWOBS and Mountain Forecast sites.

Gear Info: Specific hiking gear such as extra insulating layers and rain and wind protection are as critical as food and plenty of fresh water, while other items such as cotton articles of clothing should be avoided on all hikes. This is for your safety and well-being. Additionally, certain items -- The Updated Ten Essentials (PDF) -- should be in your pack at all hikes. If you're not familiar with the type of gear you should bring, or how to use it, do feel free to contact me for more information. Please note, for this event no specialized equipment is needed, but you will be notified if this changes. Click here for a full packing list.

Screening: Please take a moment to answer the RSVP questions when responding. It's for safety reasons this information be provided. Failure to furnish the requested information may result in removal from the activity.

Alright so the website describes the first parking area as a grassy pull off before the first bridge right at the end of rapid stream road so I think that's where I'll look for you all. Keep an eye out for me, I'll probably be sitting on a black Honda accord, and I'll cya all on Sunday!

Right now the hike is full and it looks as though everyone is attending. Most of us are also going to be in Maine for a hike the day before as well.
