Powerhouse Century.. 30 mi. and Metric also available

A local ride supporting the National Parkinson Foundation with multi-distances -- good early season event!!

http://folsompowerhousecentury.com/

  • Multi-distance options:  30 mi., 65 miles and 100 miles (est. of 5K of climbing).
  • Rest stops every 20 miles.
  • Lunch after the ride in a beautiful park setting.
  • Update: Since lunch will be AFTER the ride from 11am-3:30pm, the recommended start times are:  6:30am for the Century, 7:15am for the Metric, and 9 am for the 30-milers.  So, it looks like there'll be three groups (of course, ride at the pace you feel comfortable with since there will be other participants with you on the course.)
  • CHECK IN AT THE DESIGNATED AREA BEFORE THE RIDE THAT MORNING (for those who signed up as a group -- nine of us, our names are on their list).  As of this weekend prior, weather looks like it should be lower 80's and sunny for the event!  Hope to see you soon!

Auburn Journal article on event:  http://www.folsompowerhousecentury.com/Century%20ride%20benefits%20Parkinson%27s%20-%20Auburn%20Journal.pdf

Registration is open now and is $45 in advance ($55 day-of).  Sign-ups can be done anytime before the day of the event on Active.com (http://www.active.com/cycling/folsom-ca/5th-annual-folsom-powerhouse-century-2013).

There is also the option to purchase an event t-shirt (men's or fitted women's) for $12 with the group registration.

There is an optional pre-ride event on April 26th:

Starting out the event will be a pre-registration opportunity on Friday night, April 26th 2013, where participants can also enjoy a collection of vintage bikes at the first Historic Folsom Bike Night next to Bicycles Plus from 5-8p.m. in downtown Folsom. Registrants may vote on the best of show vintage bike and kit (outfit) exhibits. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries. Diana, Thanx to you and John for an awesome experience. Riding with you two was great. All others as well. Hope John's injuries prove to be minor. I know the rashes will be a sore reminder for weeks to come. Shea butter is an incredible product. Have a great Sunday everyone and again, Thanx Mike for putting this together.

Thanks to all for a great ride on Saturday. My update on my crash. Went to urgent care after BBQ ,pain does not stop hunger lol. They saw something of concern in the xray off the bike until Monday when I see my doctor to rule out a hip fracture. I told the doctor at urgent care the I rode 35 miles before I got sagged. Rode 76 miles 6200 feet,I guess you can almost call it a century. Best JV

Mike, I found a photo from this event in 2009. Do you mind if I post it at the bottom of your details?

I like the pic. I appreciate that you love to use the camera!

Side note. It was one of those MISERABLY HOT days, a record setter on that day. I turned around early to make sure the gal in the orange (riding pal Kelly) arrived back safely. The two tough cookies on the right side got SAG support back. It was just "one of those" days. We were all smiling until about mile 50 or so. :) Hopefully and prayerfully your day will be MUCH better!!!

DONE! Thanks Mike. This shot was taken at the first rest stop, right off Taylyr Road across from the Portuguese Hall near Newcastle. See ya!!!

FYI Mike. I'm an early riser/rider and don't have time to take part in this event this year (did it in 2009) but I probably can work it out so that I ride with you for part of the route when ya'all start. I'll check in with you later to confirm this. Nice to see you leading this one, that's AWESOME!

Welcome Diana and Ryan. Looks like there's a prett even split between the metric and the 100 miler. With a couple of friends coming (Samuel and Josiah), we will let have a group of at least ten. I will find out how best to sign up as a group and post instructions soon! Good to see Steve will be riding too!

It's great to see the posts on this worthy local ride! It looks like we have four plus a couple others I know that can make it. We'll plan to place another posting about how to sign up and pay as a group soon. Thanks Melanie for sharing. Praying for a successful surgery later this month. As the NPF website says, we can help beat Parkinson's!!
