Sun. 6/22 Vineman Preview

Updated  (6/8/2014) details – please read & respond:

Schedule for Sunday June 22:

The basic ride options are 58, 73, and 93 miles as described further below.  The schedule is designed so that people finish around the same time regardless of which group they are biking with, and whether or not they're swimming.  This means the 93 milers start an hour earlier than the others – and the 58 and 73 milers get an extra hour of sleep!

Bike Distance   58 miles   73 miles    93 miles

Ready to swim   9:00AM    9:00AM      8:00AM

Swim start           9:15AM      9:15AM       8:15AM

Swim end            10:00AM   10:00AM   9:00AM

Bike start             10:30AM   10:30AM   9:30AM

Riding time (est.)  5.0 hrs        5.5 hrs      6.5 hrs

Bike end                  3:30 PM    4:00 PM    4:00 PM

The preview day – like the race itself – is always long and hot.  Please be realistic about the distance you tackle, because regardless of how far you choose ride, it is a challenging course.

Traditionally we gather post-workout to refuel at the Garden Grill, 17132 Hwy 116, Guerneville, CA.

Sign-up Sheet is Now Posted – Please Respond:

PLEASE use the link below to sign-up, indicate which distance you are biking, whether you are swimming, etc.  We are also seeking swim and ride leaders; people familiar with the course who can help orient their group.  You can change your information at any time.

Do You Know Someone Who Can Help with Sag Support or Aid Station?

We need volunteer(s) to sag for us and help with an aid station near the midpoint.  If you have a friend or spouse who can help us out, please let us know – use the Sign-Up Sheet to offer them up!  Thanks!

$10 Donation Please

I know we never mentioned an “entry fee.”  Well, given the size of the group and the inevitable hot temperatures, I feel that the SAGs and an Aid station are important and want to reimburse drivers for gas, ice, water, snacks, etc.  If everyone pitches in $10 we’ll be covered.  You can either use Paypal with my email address, [masked] or mail me a check (254 Santa Margarita Ave, Menlo Park CA 94025), or give me cash or a check at SVTC Tuesday track workout.

About the Bike Route Options/Cue Sheet and Course Map

The following link provides a preliminary cue sheet and course map for the preview, which will be updated with additional information closer to the preview day.

·  93 miles – covers the Full Vineman (iron distance) course but without the entire second loop, and with the additional miles to return to Guerneville rather than the finish at Windsor H.S.

·  73 miles – covers the Vineman 70.3 course, but with the additional miles to return to Guerneville rather than the finish at Windsor H.S.

·  58 miles – covers most but not all of the Vineman 70.3 course; a good simulation of the 70.3 course and distance.

The preview is a great practice whether you are registered for the 70.3, the Full, Barb's Race, or another event. Due to the way the course is laid out (two transition locations) we will cover much but not all of the course but provide a good preview and practice opportunity.

Look forward to seeing you on June 22!

FYI, NASCAR is at the Sonoma Speedway so there will be a lot of traffic. Make sure you leave early enough.

Thanks Scott. I notice the Sunday race isn't until 3pm. Do you think traffic will be affected in the early morning? Or are there other events during the day besides the NASCAR race?

Hi Rick, I am wondering if you still need another SAG on Sunday Preview. My 10 year old nephew and I will be available and we can drive Sopheak's van. If you can think of something that my nephew and I can contribute, let me know. This could be more meaningful for him then play games at Scandia.

Would I be able to just do the swimming portion?

    June 8, 2014

    • Rick S.

Sure, Sandra, you can certainly do just the swim if you'd like and you're most welcome to join us - though you can also do the swim on your own there at any time.
