Are you vegan? (If not, please describe why you are interested in joining the group.)

Yes. Ideally would like to find other people to cook and bake with.

What kind of activities would you like to see in this group?

Preparing hearty fresh-cooked meals from seasonal ingredients. Activities that relate to wildlife, and wild life for that matter. Restaurant visits and potlucks are OK too.

What are your main motivations for following a vegan lifestyle?

Caring about animals and habitat. What tided me over, from being vegetarian to going vegan in the 90s, was the recognition that chickens and dairy cows are of course all female, the unappetizing weirdness of this. Probably got the idea from an article about Carol Adams. It really only dawned on me later, the recognition of what happens to the males. Nowadays I feel a strong connection between being vegan and preserving habitat, both for animals and for native plants - I care about the plants for their own sake, and also because native wildlife are dependent on them.

Well, I'm a peninsula vegan...
