Olde English Faire

Jun. 16, 2012 - Jun. 17, 2012, Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sound ye trumpets, shine thine armour, sharpen ye olde sword, lace thy corsets and braid thy long, shining tresses! Gather thy children and challenge their imaginations with tales from ye Middle Ages. The 39th Annual Olde English Faire returns to Wildlife Prairie State Park on June 16 and 17, 2012.

This fundraiser for WPSP pays tribute to the sights, sounds, aromas, speech and activities of the Middle Ages! Come cheer on sword fighters, jousters and archers as they compete in mock battles. Take in the tales, tricks and tunes of roving story tellers, magicians and musicians. Watch the acrobats, musical acts and comedians amongst the flora and fauna of the park.

You can shop with our fine artisans for treasures galore. There will be plenty of hearty food and beverages offered throughout the Park, as well as shaded areas to rest, restroom facilities and free parking.

So, now I'm getting involved in the 2013 event and hopefully I have Margie (maybe the GOOD WITCH.. anyone want to be the BAD WITCH?). The SCA who used to run the event at Jubilee have pulled out because they've done it for over 10 years and are worked too hard for little reward.
That makes this event a fundraiser for the WILDLIFE PRAIRIE PARK. They need more vendors (fine artists might be allowed, like jewelry or woodworking) and more strolling musicians. Let's help them out!

OK.. so there was a sudden change of personel and missing vendor paperwork and map layouts were gone.. so they had to kinda start from scratch this year!
Ya know, we could get some of us to learn a CONTRA or ROUND dance and do it next year when that fun singer guy is playing. He needed a bigger audience!

The Park is now operated by the Friends of Wildlife Prairie State Park and the State of Illinois.
The place was "WILLED" to the state after the death of the FOUNDER. Luckily, this park has sponsors who will do their best to keep the place open, whereas some place like Jubilee would be shut down, like it was years ago. WPP seems extremely willing to use the faire as a fundraiser... the founders of the faire need to work on making it better every year!

isn't the problem that JUBILEE is a state run park and the state is broke, so there's a fear that the Gov will either close the parks (and that's what happened a few years ago and the faire organizers couldn't get some of the vendors to return the last 3 years) or the GOV wants to charge a huge fee to attend ANY state park...
after attending many of the HUGE Ren Faires, I find it sad that there aren't more college/high school theater or GLEE clubs involved for entertainment.

Margie - you are so right ! It is so sad compared to what it use to be - worst ever!
I complained to WLP park last year along with a lot of other people and they said they would bring some of the old stuff back and get rid of some of the junk they brought in but as you can see it only got worse and it's 10 bucks to get in now ! I'm working on a campaign to move it back !

We went Sunday, It was small, but a lot of people were there today. I was disappointed in Wildlife's lack of handicapped help. ie, no rental of scooters, etc...

IT was a lot better at jubilee . This year was worst then last year. It just seem a lot smaller, less things going on.. less people walking in costume , no palm reader or fortune teller Less food of olden days

It was a lot better before and it cost more to get in now. Not nearly as good as it was but it's still ok - with a new group taking over WLP Park maybe it will get better '

I believe Jubille is open. The website is giving an updated phone number for hiking info, and an article in the Journal Star on 5/21/12 tells about a woman who had a horseback riding accident there. Another nice thing about the fair being at Wildlife, no parking fees ! I am new to this group and have not been to an outing yet, but I am going to try to make this one. I had some surgery recently that has kept me down, but I am starting to feel like getting out again !

It was better at Jubilee but we can drink beer at Wild Life Prairie. The fair is still fun. Beware of fortune tellers! You can thank our ex-governor for the change in location.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
