This is our 6th event at Sommer Park, and this is a fantastic venue with tons of acreage, woods, period buildings, barns & cabins and a very enthusiastic staff. It has been growing each time. We encourage vehicles, artillery pieces and large displays, as there is an immense amount of room for them. We have a hauling fund available, just ask. We pride ourselves on being a 'no-hassles' event, with the emphass on safety, education and fun. We plan to have double the armor & vehicles in attendance this year, as well as WW2 warbird that will do battle with the German flak battery!.
Check our web page at www.centralilww2.com for pics of last year's event.
Sommer Park is located off Rt 150 just west of the 'Shoppes of Grande Prairie' shopping center.
Turn left on Koerner Rd just past Weaver Angus Farm. Watch for signs!
Event is in the greater Peoria area, however for map search directions use 6329 N. Koerner Rd, Edwards, IL.

I went ahead and uploaded 12 of the photos to the client section of my website. Since I don't have signed releases, I secured the photos. Enter "Peoria2013" to access. Click on the following link:

It was good all the way around..definitely worth the price of admission (free).

I paid the $10 per car load price for just myself - which is really odd considering they bused us in from Grand Prairie - I didn't even know there was a $2 option. So I was equally confused.

Topher, I also paid $10 and felt odd as it was for carload/family. I went alone and was also bused from the mall. Oh well, I enjoy photographing the event and figured it went to a good cause. Al

I made it to the the event today and managed to to take almost 700 photos. I will post edit them in the next few days and post them. I just wish the weather would have cooperated better. I ended up using a rain sleeve on my camera and a rain cover on my backpack on a few occasions during the shoot. Overall it was a lot of fun shooting the event. Al

It was an awesome event! I didn't know about this event until I found this group. I had a lot of fun, and it was a great and challenging photography experience.

Only got in on the tail end of things. They were only using 1 school bus to transport people from Grande Prairie and there were a LOT of people. I lucked out getting a bus ride when they wanted a loner for one seat...I grabbed it. There were at least 30 people in front of me waiting. And more than 30 behind me. It was really interesting, just wish I had gotten there earlier to spend more time.

Next year I think I would go during Friday's setup...there may be some good opportunities to get portraits.

Also...in September, near Joliet IL, is a ww2 reenactment that is huge in scale. http://www.ww2rockfordevent.com/

I haven't got a lot up yet, but here are some I took. I edited them all in b/w with a vintage feel. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.544923598889125.1073741827.220418578006297&type=1

Wow. After seeing your photos, I realized just how much I missed. There was so much going on. I love the smaller details you captured. Great Job!!

      Thanks everyone!

Topher, Looking at what you shot it make me realize some deficiencies in my choices of shots. I didn't really get any portraits (UGH!) and I didn't photograph the flag on that pole/tree. I followed suit with posting on flickr. I tried to process them so that they looked like period color photographs.

Awesome photos!! I love the grunge look. My favorite is the one when they are surrendering.

Looks like we cannot post pictures until the event is over. :(

I agree Topher, it was a lot of fun. For some reason I think my son and I were where we shouldn't have been during the battle. Nobody said anything and it wasn't until later that I realized that 99% of the "civilians' were behind a line and I was on the "wrong" side.

Everybody, please post some of your pics to this event, I would love to see what other people captured.

Hey all, this is a very loosely organized event. I am not coordinating getting together before or afterwards. Feel free to say "HI" if you see me...I should be noticeable as I will have a couple kids with me. :)

I'm on vacation this week and they're calling for light rain on Saturday. So, I hate to but I'm going to make other plans for Saturday. Hopefully, I'll make the big WWII event in Rockford...if Mother Nature behaves herself then.

Why don't we wait to see who plans to go.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
