Discussion - Pope says atheists can be good people, what about everybody else?

So recently the pope made a statement that if atheists do good works they can be considered good people.  Of course this has caused several different reactions from several different people.

So we can discuss the different reactions from people both in religious communities and atheists.  Of course, we will also give our own opinions on the statement.

And I'm sure we will have many many sidetracks....

Looks like it wasn't enough notice to get the weekend we wanted but hopefully we can get a good turnout.

Busy polishing my horns. The Pope has deemed me a good (worthy?) human. Even the most hardened criminal on Death Row has had his moment though of doing a 'good work' in their life.
