Summer picnic

Hopefully this will become an annual thing, but we are going to meet up for a picnic at Glen Oak park.  If you are new or interested in the group, this would be a great chance to meet some members and find out what we are all about.  If you are an existing member but haven't been in a while, this is the time to catch up with the rest of us.  This is a family friendly event and a playground will be close to where we are meeting so feel free to bring kids!  We are meeting at the Glen Oak Park Pavilion Porch, it is on the main park district building.

It will be a pot luck style picnic but bringing a dish is not necessary.  I will provide beverages and gondolas.  If you are going to bring a dish, please post what you are bringing so we can avoid everybody bringing the same thing.  Also, we will be accepting donations to help with the cost of renting the pavilion.

Again, no pressure at all to bring anything or to donate, all that is required to attend is a good attitude!  I hope we can have a good turn-out for this meetup!

What a beautiful day to have the picnic - thank you Nick for organizing! Sorry I had to scoot so early - I could tell Sam was going to start getting testy if we stayed much longer. Great to see you folks again, and also great to meet some new people!

Husband woke up this morning sick, we should have been in town by now. I must stay home. Too bad, I have this huge pot of beans (not vegan) and no one to eat them.

Guys. I have to woefully announce that I will not be able to attend this =(.

I'm hoping we will still be able to make it, but my 5 year old has had a fever for the last 3 days - so we will see. She seems to be feeling better today, so that is a plus. Just so you all are aware - one of the employees at her daycare (unbeknownst to us) took it upon herself to start "educating" Sam about the "g" word. I have been trying to explain to her that not everyone believes, and that her father and I choose not too, but every once in a while she will start asking questions or make a god comment. I just didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable if my little blonde blue eyed girl started asking questions if she heard us talking or anything!! I'm really looking forward to her being in a large group of agnostics/atheist/freethinkers! Can someone tell me where exactly in the park the porch pavilion is? I have only been to that park to go to the zoo a couple of times, so I don't want to look like a total moron trying to find the place!

Erin, it is pretty easy to find as it is basically the porch of the main Peoria Park District building. When you enter the park, stay toward the right. You will pass the amphitheater and lagoon on your right and the Park District building will be on the left right after.

Thanks, Nick! I should be able to find it.

I'll bring chips of some kind.

I plan to bring some fruit and a thermos full of coffee. May bring a cold sandwich and a couple of bottles of water.

MB, as a UU, I thought your understanding of "potluck" would be more advanced. Hopefully the fruit is to share? ;)

I have wanted to finally get to one of the groups meetings/events. I will bring baked beans, is there power available if I bring my dish in a crock pot?

    July 7, 2013

  • Erin Totosz

I will be bringing some sort of desert - most likely of the chocolate variety . . . since we can't have alcohol, might as well have chocolate!

Unfortunately I will not be available in July. :(

Erin, it will be good to see you again too.

Marty, this will be a good chance to meet a lot of our members. We will have meetings before then (I just haven't scheduled them yet) so feel free to come to any of those as well!

Hi All, I will be a first-timer to the picnic, hopefully. I've never done a meetup before so I'm interested in seeing what this group is like.

    MB,

I forgot to mention this in the meeting description but alcohol is not allowed in the park. Unfortunately, this will have to be an alcohol free party. I will have a cooler with ice and will bring some beverages (water and soda) but I will make sure there is room for other beverages that people may bring.

    Dear Nick,

If someone wants to bring beer, will there be a cooler with ice? (Red wine, usually, doesn't need to be kept cold, although most people prefer a cold bottle of chardonnay.) --MB

Everybody, the time for the picnic will be noon, not 7PM, unfortunately I once again created a meeting without verifying the time.

Glen Oak park is where the Ingersoll statue is located. We will be meeting at the Glen Oak Park Pavilion porch which is located at a different portion of the park but still within walking distance of the statue.

    June 7, 2013

  • J M Lanan

is this where the Ingersol statue is?

  • M.B. Yunus (Go by MB)

This is a good idea, Nick. I suggest the time at 5:30 PM. This will allow more time to mingle before it gets dark (sunset is at 8:29 P). Let's decide the meeting place, food, etc. as time draws nearer. --MB
