For our first meeting of the new year, let's discuss ideas for what we want to do with the Peoria Secular Humanist Society in 2014.

I can't make it to the meeting as I'll be out of town. In 2014, I'd like to be more active and I will try. Tuesdays are no better or worse for me than other days. I like the idea of doing charitable things as a group and would be happy to help when I can. I think we should look into getting our not-for-profit tax status in 2014 and working out a means of paying for whatever costs are associated with that.

It will be good to see you in one of our meetings in the near future. --MB

I agree with the suggestion of charity work. This is compatible with, even expected of, our group because of the very name of our organization. My other suggestion is to have a day out (in the spring and summer) to the museums in Chicago or St. Louis (I'm particularly interested in abstract expressionism). Since most of us have been to the museums in Chicago, St. Louis may be a better choice (I was very disappointed by the contemporary art museum in Chicago).
Some of our good speakers may like to make a brief presentation on an interesting topic. Epigenetics and its effect on evolution is a current hot topic. This is in addition to the book discussion. It will be helpful if more of our members get involved in meetings and activities. It will be nice to have more members, of course.
Eating out as a group is always a good idea.
My other suggestion is for us to pay a small membership fee (eg,five or ten dollars a year). I look forward to the discussion in the upcoming meeting. --MB
I guess I missed the earlier email for the vote. Fortunately, both Tuesday and Friday suit me fine.
That's a good idea Walt, if anybody wants to make a suggestion or has any ideas to bring to the floor, we can post them here. I was thinking we could revisit the adopt a highway idea. I also want to discuss the day, time and locations of our regular discussion meetings to ensure that we are meeting at a time that works best for everyone.
To get the discussion, started the 14th, we should have one or two ideas ready to be put forward then or maybe even here.
