Due to all of our meeting time during the last month being devoted to planning for Hug an Atheist and revising our bylaws, we haven't had time for just a regular discussion meeting. So let's have one!
Members of the Peoria Secular Humanist Society meet on average every other week to have a discussion on varying topics. Some discussions are very structured with specific information being presented by a member while others are less formal. Topics can change rapidly on some of the less formal discussions but members almost always enjoy themselves.
Discussions are open to anyone from active members of the group to newcomers wishing to learn more about who we are. Discussion topics will be posted to this meetup before the discussion but, as always, anybody will be welcome to bring a topic to the floor.
The Peoria Secular Humanist Society is based in Central Illinois. We are dedicated to the promotion of the philosophy that a belief in a supernatural deity is not necessary to live a moral and fulfilling life. We serve as an outreach organization to provide education and social support to members of the atheist, agnostic, and humanist communities, and any others who do not follow or subscribe to a traditional religion.
We are a social, educational, and outreach organization based in Peoria, Illinois, and serving Peoria and surrounding communities. Our statement of purpose is...
To promote the idea that a belief in any type of supernatural being is not necessary to live a moral, purposeful, and fulfilling life.
• To advocate for the separation of church and state at local, state, national, and international levels.
• To advocate for science, critical thinking, and rational thought.
To provide outreach, support, and community for local individuals without religious affiliation or those who may be questioning their current religious beliefs.
• To provide a means for members to have intelligent discussions and seek out new knowledge.
