Hello, all! It's Bill Poorman, one of the organizers of the Peoria Secular Humanist Society.
Thanks to everyone who came out for the last meeting. A few different things were decided, and I thought I'd pass those along.
First, you might have noticed the name change. We decided to add "secular" in order to emphasize the non-religious aspect of the group.
Second, it was decided that we will remain mostly a social group for now. The general thought was that the PSHS is not ramped up to take on any sustained activism right now. Maybe that will come down the road. Maybe there will the occasional special event that motivates all of us to participate. But it will not be a focus of the group for now.
Third, a few of your fellow group members have stepped up to organize future get-togethers, so look for notices from them going forward. I won't be able to be very involved at this point, but I hope to see you at meetings as often as I can.
Finally, just so you know, we also have a Facebook page. Just search on Facebook for "Peoria Secular Humanist Society". Be sure to "like" it! We'll try to keep the Meetup group and Facebook page synced as best we can. Also, we do have our own web address - www.peoriasecularhumanistsociety.org. It's nothing more than a pointer to this Meetup group and the Facebook page right now, but it exists and can be expanded in the future if there's a reason to do so.
That's all for now. Thanks to the new organizers and all of you for making the group a success!
