At our most recent meeting, we discussed the idea of hosting a public screening of the documentary "Hug an Atheist." The current plan is to screen the film at Landmark Cinemas on a Saturday afternoon. The cost to rent the theater will be $150. The licensing fees to show the film will be $150 and the cost of the actual DVD will be $30. We will need to raise $330 to show the film.
When we do the show, we can have a suggested donation from viewers (I don't think a fee should be required as we are trying to get as many people as possible to see it.) The donation money could be used to pay for the costs of showing the film but we will still need to have money up front. At this point I am asking everybody who can help to pitch in for the up front costs.
After the film has been shown and donations have been collected, some or all of the upfront money that has been contributed by members can be paid back. But there is no guarantee of what will be returned. In order to go any further with making plans, I need to know that we will be able to raise the up front money. What I am asking at this point in time is for anybody who is willing and able to contribute to let me know how much you can chip in. You can post a response to the corresponding bulletin board message or send me a private message. Once I have enough "pledges" for up front donations then we can go forward with ordering the movie, picking out a date, and deciding on how best to promote the movie (I'm guessing we will have a meeting devoted to just setting up the film.)
I personally will put up $150 so we are already almost half way to our goal!
Here is some information about the documentary:
