sample bylaws

Peoria Secular Humanists,

As many of you may know, our next meeting will be devoted to completing a final draft of our bylaws.  I have uploaded an early draft to our files on the meetup group.  For any members who wish to make suggestions but cannot attend the meeting, please email your suggestion to me and I will ensure your suggestions are taken under consideration.

Moving forward, once we have a final draft of bylaws, we will call a meeting to vote on implementing the new bylaws.  Then we will nominate and elect, if necessary, officers and board members.  For the purposes of implementing bylaws and electing our first officers, all members of the meetup group will be eligible to vote should they choose to do so.

After officers and a board of directors is elected, dues will most likely be implemented to cover, at the very least, our meetup and website costs.  The cost and period of dues will be determined by the board of directors.  Most likely, after dues have been implemented, only due paying members will be allowed to vote (this decision will be made by the board of directors but there seemed to be general agreement with the idea when it has been brought up in the past).  Also, with bylaws and elected leaders, we will be in a better position to accept donations beyond dues as well.

However, I want to make it clear that my vision for the group moving forward, will be for us continue with our bi-monthly discussions and other social meetings and for those events to be free and open to everybody, regardless of due paying status.

Also, we have received enough pledges for donations to host the screening of "Hug an Atheist" so look for that to happen within the next month as well!
