The daily lives of most of us are full of things that keep us busy and preoccupied with mundane concerns. We miss the sacred, so every now and then we find ourselves drawing-back and wondering what is it all about. And then. perhaps we may internally begin exploring perennial questions that we don't normally stop to examine. This can happen with regard to any aspect of our lives. This study group is deliberately designed for those among us who are curious, enthusiastic, non-judgemental, and wonder about the "big picture".
YOU tend to take a broader view of phenomena and ATTEMPT to see how everything fits together. This is a sacred act. Ideally, we will meet once a month to discuss an assigned "philosophical" text. I employ the term philosophical in the broadest sense.
Our template for discussion will be the free-form, "round-table". All members are equal, no matter your social station. The assigned text will serve to induce a direction and provide focus, yet thematic revelations are encouraged. I ask that members come prepared with passages or themes from the assigned reading(s) that they wish to discuss with the group so that each discussion will focus on that which grabbed us each with the greatest force.
I welcome suggestive readings from the membership. Anything from Heraclitus through Habermas, from Homer to Lao Tsu, from Vyassa and Patanjali to Dylan and Springsteen, from Twain to Marx and beyond....... My hope is to cultivate an awakening and RE-cognition with our judgements, reasoning and acts that will promote and foster interconnectivity and address global social concerns. Our books possess wisdom. Lets rediscover her and re-animate her with discourse.
Let us together leave each meetup/conversation with a perspective wider, deeper, and richer than the one we had when entering it.
