Announcing a new Meetup for Permaculture Network of NJ!

What: Use Adobe & Cob natural building techniques - Short Hills Project

When: Sunday, June 27,[masked]:00 PM

John's Home
Short Hills
Short Hills, NJ 07078

Learn how to build with the earth!
We will plan and discuss the steps to take to build a beautiful sitting/meditation bench in a large vegetable garden. David Mitsak will be our teacher, sharing his knowledge and experience in earthen building.

We will assign roles and responsibilities and decide who will bring which tools and source various materials.
We will check our calendars and choose a day/time in July to create the bench. Please bring your calendars with you.

We will discuss who will:
-get subsoil (about a ton)
-get sand (about a ton)
-get straw (a couple bales)
-get random shaped river type stones in place as the foundation/base
-make "bricks" the week before (with sand, subsoil and straw) so that we are working with both dry (adobe) and wet (cob) material. That way we will be able to build up higher. With just wet we can only go up a little before we have to let it dry for a few days.
-make the plaster and have it ready in case we want to put on the firstcoat. Plastering will be done as a separate event.

Please bring a dish to share or dessert. Please bring beer or wine if you want.

This event is open to the first 15 respondents. Please RSVP Yes and we will send you the invitation with address of this private residence.
