Permablitz! Potluck Party! Earthworks Class! Come learn and help!

Earthworks Event!  Rick Sheldon from St. Augustine's Hummingbird Acres is going to be up with his John Deere Track hoe/front end loader and he's going to show us how it's done!  We'll dig the earthworks in record time and get a huge job done in one day.

The property is about 1 acre!  He's got a bunch of trees and plants that you can take too.  Crepe Myrtles, high quality florist ferns, flowering vines, etc.

John is a single guy, so we are hoping that the group can bring potluck dishes this time.  Please bring any seeds and plants that you want to donate to the cause.

Thank you to all who participate in these things.  One at a time, we start each other onto the path of community self-sufficiency.  It's important that we have a way to feed our families and ourselves, safe, healthy food and water and live a comfortable life even when the the "power goes out".

Good times and a better garden.
Thank you to all the angels that came to my PermaBlitz today and brought Christmas a little early to me and my garden. I appreciate all the hard work, food, seeds and plants. A very big thank you to Rick Sheldon and his tractor, a lot extra got done because of it. We got a lot planted and saved me a years’ worth of labor.
    Blessings,
    John

For full size vehicle go to 3623 Forest Blvd. Second house North of mine on East side of street, gray house with huge front yard. Pull into Southern end of circle driveway and park along Southern most fence with bumper toward fence. Make sure car is completely off driveway. DO NOT park along fence leading to house. Once this fence line is full I have permission to open gate for more parking. For help, my cell phone is 226 0645. (It does not always ring with weak signal, it will take Voicemail ) or walk over to my house and find me.

If you have a smaller car, go to 3731 Forest Blvd, second driveway past mine on LEFT (East), follow driveway toward house, once past fence corner, turn left, and park at a 45 degree angle (makes it easy to get out) along fence on left. First car in please go down to corner and work back. Once fence line is full 2 cars should be able to park on each side of driveway, please park completely off driveway.
Go through little white gate into my yard, or walk down sidewalk.

    Directions to Blitz.
Sorry I have to use multiple emails, the site won’t let me post it all in one.

From Beach Blvd and Southside Blvd go East on Beach about 1 mile. (Church or Sams club is too far)
At the traffic light turn Right (South) onto Forest Blvd (between Construction site and Forest Tower park)
Go about half a mile, follow Forest around curve to left.
My house (3717 Forest) is on the LEFT, only one with a white garage door. White house, green trim.
If you go around the second curve, you have gone too far.
You can park in yard, bumper toward house, or drive way. Gates on fence to backyard on both ends of house.

It looks like we have a good weather forecast for the Blitz on Saturday. If 44 show up, that will be double what I had expected. My little house will be overflowing. Covered dishes will be appreciated.
If anyone can bring another wheelbarrow, there is a lot of stuff to move around.
The compost has been covered and kept dry during the showers.
Does anyone have some extra turnip and okra seeds? Lowe’s has put out the new seed display, but no turnips or cold weather plants. I'm want to grow enough vegies so I can juice for more nutrition
Also last weekend the Lowe’s on Atlantic Blvd still had several pallets of healthy fruit trees on sale.
    Looking forward to Saturday

Good news! I talked to a couple of neighbors. If 40 cars show up for the PermaBlitz next week (doubtful) I have enough parking for them all. I may need to use a couple of early arrivers to direct parking. While you are here you can look over my fence to check out the house for sale with 2 acre yard that would make a fantastic Permaculture garden.
I have a good supply of 3 gallon nursery pots for taking home plants. Some plants available here are:
A lot of Ferns used by florist in bouquets
    A lot of Dahoon Holly
    A few crepe myrtle
    Some Carolina sweet shrub
Lots of Violet trumpet vine - Clytostoma callistegioides
I will have two big pots of different veg stews. I’ve printed recipes for Sweet Potato yeast bread, Hawaiian bread and Ginger bread. I will start baking bread on Friday. The house should smell great.

My planned menu for the Blitz includes a crock pot of Vegetable Quinoa Stew and baking some bread. Sweet potato bread worked well last time I tried. Any covered dishes will be much appreciated.
I would like to get an herb garden going and planted properly. Any herbal donations are appreciated, even if I have to keep in the greenhouse till Spring.
While trimming brush I have collected a variety of walking staffs. They will be waiting on the 14th for you to claim.
If there is enough interest, I can build a campfire before sundown, weather permitting.

The PermaBlitz is closer. I’ve collected wood chips, tree limbs. I was cutting brush to bury in the hugelkultur bed when I fell and hurt my back enough to slow me down for a month. Finally found a source for manure. I picked up a load today. I will make more trips this week to make sure I have enough for the PermaBlitz.
I didn’t get the fruit trees I wanted , do have a peach tree I want to plant properly. I have several citrus trees I want to dig around and apply wood chips and manure, also other sick trees to bring back with proper nutrition.
Parking is limited at my house. I had planned to use a nearby church yard, but have been unable to get permission from them. There is a public elementary school 1/8 mile past my house with accessible parking, but I do not have permission to use it. I can squeeze 12-15 cars in my yards I will talk to neighbors this weekend to try to get more parking.
