Permablitz at the Beach! Tell all of your Beach friends! WRONG ADDRESS!!!

  • February 22, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

FOR SOME REASON, Meetup won't allow us to use the correct address.  Please come to 480 7th Ave. S. Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.  Look for the great mural:

Good food and good times!  Let's make another home a little more self-sufficient and healthy for the earth and the owner!

Permablitz!  Bring your gloves and happy smiles!

We will implement Helen's design.  Helen is a graduate of the Permaculture Design Course done in October of last year and she's got a great design!

See you all there!

To everyone who supported the efforts at this weekend's Permablitz at the beach, I say to you all, THANK YOU.

I am absolutely overwhelmed with joy and happiness having so many people show up to give my yard a permaculture make over. Everyone was so gracious with their tools, time, gifts and efforts, with their smiles, good cheer, laughter, conversation and camaraderie.

It's times like these when I just cannot find the right words to adequately convey my gratitude, my thanks and my appreciation for everyone's efforts in making yesterday happen.

Although these words don't come close to the appreciation I have for everyone and everything that had to occur to make this project happen, all I can say is THANK YOU to everyone for a spectacular day.

Y'all will be the very first to know when I start harvesting food from the trees we planted and the veggies I have yet to plant.

    :)

Likewise from me too. It's beautiful to throw a permablitz and to have the people-power to get it done! We still have rain capture workshops and cob workshops out there, so get ready for that!

We learned a lot ourselves, so we should thank you, Logan and Helen, for letting us using your yard for educational purposes :)

Our collective in Jax Beach is hosting a geodesic dome building workshop on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. also! We will try and wrap this up in early afternoon, and head over to see if you all still need some hands :)

    2 · February 19, 2014

    • Meghan O.

Hi Stephanie! We may or may not be building the dome, depending on the weather. This will probably be the only time we build it in Jax Beach, as we mostly set it up to host workshops at music festivals. We will definitely be meeting at 11 tomorrow to go over the blueprint for the dome and doing inventory to make sure we have everything, but may be assembling it another day, again dependent on the weather. If you're interested in attending tomorrow let me know, or I can keep you posted on if we decide to actually put it up on a different date. Will you definitely be attending the permablitz? If so, and we do end up putting the dome up tomorrow you could always stop by later in the afternoon to check it out. :)

Meghan Orman, I'm very interested, too. We built one in Gville in '78. never have gone back to see if it is still standing!

I will bring another wheel barrow to move some of that woodchip mulch on Sat

    1 · February 21, 2014

  • Logan T.

I asked a local guy for 2 yards of woodchips, and he just dropped off 5 yards instead. If you or any one you know needs woodchips in the beaches area, stop by 480 7th Ave. S., and help yourself. Good Lord, thats a lot of woodchips... LOL.

I definitely do! I will pick them up just let me know where please! That would be a great help we are at a loss for finding some on our side of town that doesn't cost a fortuen!

Lol... nevermind I see where they are, I would love to take them off of your hands if we can coordinate a good time for you?

I plan to go unless my Arlington community outreach group has something scheduled. Very interested in what I can learn and giving my time in return.

Just y'all and your appetite. We'll have some really good, organic food.

Hey there all... I just had a quick question before I added guests to come with me to help out at this event. My mother in law wanted me to ask if she might be able to bring her two kids, 13 and 9 and very into working in the dirt and helping out. Just wanted to clear it with you first before having them come with.

    2 · February 13, 2014

    • Alexander Ojeda, J.

They sure can. We should have other kids there too . Thanks!

      February 13, 2014

    • Logan T.

You bet! That'd be great! And if the weather permits, I'm 5 (five) blocks from the ocean. it's a 0.3 mile walk. If y'all need a salt fix, I'm sure there's some very pretty shells that need a new home. If the little ones want to stay inside, I can always put on a movie for 'em.

I have RSVP'ed yes, however my work schedule has not come out yet. I will be requesting off but you know how that can go... I really hope i am able to make it as I am very excited to be learning more hands-on about permaculture design and implementation. If not Saturday, will there be any other days this will be going on?

    February 9, 2014

    • Logan T.

Hello Stephanie. My yard is a work in progress and I'm always doing projects on the weekends especially. You're welcome to stop by anytime and see what's going on. Help yourself to some fresh herbs if you need some, or whatever else I have growing that's ready for harvesting.

      February 11, 2014

    • Stephanie

Hey thank you for letting me know. I figure it is an ongoing process, and I am excited to get involved. More likely than not I'll be there since I requested off that day!

Hi, what exactly are we doing here? I'm new to this group and looking to learn more about building with cob and maybe find a group of people to help and to help me with learning and/or building. ^_^ I am a noob, but if I can help, I will try.

    January 17, 2014

    • Alexander Ojeda, J.

Becky, we are going to be creating a permaculture project with as many people as we can in one day. The designer is a trained permaculturist. It's her home. Come for the education and to get to know the group. The more you do in the group, the more people want to come do your project. We have skilled designers that Work for food ;)

G'day Becky. I've got 11 trees I hope to plant in newly constructed hugle mounds, and a bunch of other plants I would like to get in the ground. As Alex mentioned, we'll have yummy organic vegetarian and vegan food. Plus, we're all a bunch of really awesome people. Come hang out with us!

I would like to come, but have to work this day. Will there still be stuff to do if I arrive about 2:30?

    February 9, 2014

    • Logan T.

Hello Dianne. I'm sure we'll still be going around that time. And if we're almost done, stop by anyhow and eat some yummy organic food and hang out for a while. :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
