Hi Everyone,
The Pet Alliance Meetup group will begin a book study of Nathan Winograd’s book “Redemption” in October. I need your assistance/suggestions on possible quiet, FREE meeting sites that are centrally located in the Cincinnati area. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please contact Anita at acbarron@petalliance.org or 513-753-3270 with any suggestions for a meeting site in October. I do have a couple of meeting options on the east side of Cincinnati, and I realize that is not very convenient for many people. Any suggestions of a quiet, FREE meeting room that would hold around 20 people would be very appreciated. Until we secure the meeting site, we need to be reading the book "Redemption". We may announce a "meeting" to be held by a phone conference prior to our physical meeting. You will find information on different suggested resources for securing the book further into this email. Our meeting has 2 objectives: 1) “Redemption” is a MUST read for every animal advocate who wants to see major improvement in how each community deals with their homeless animals. Nathan Winograd comments in the June 2009 Leadership Study http://nokilladvocacy... “A hard working, compassionate animal control director who is not content to continue killing by hiding behind the myth of “too many animals, not enough homes” or regurgitating tired clichés about public irresponsibility.” The combination of programs that creates the solution to helping our homeless animals is already known. We must educate ourselves and our community before we can start implementing the "equation" that adds up to saving more homeless animals' lives in our community. 2) By our Networking and building alliances, we can improve the welfare of our communities’ homeless animals. As Margaret Mead so eloquently commented, ““Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.” So many animal advocate heroes are struggling alone for our mutual mission to save the homeless animals, uniting together will create a larger force than our individual efforts. We request that you read Nathan Winograd’s book, “Redemption” prior to our meeting in October. The paperback book “Redemption” can be found either at the library, local bookstore or online. Your local library system may carry the book. As a convenience, I have ordered 10 books from Amazon at a cost of $11.53 each (free shipping with the bulk order). If you would like to arrange to buy a book from Pet Alliance directly, shipping may be by-passed if we can connect locally. Locally, Barnes and Noble in Kenwood has a few books at their store: Sycamore Plaza at Kenwood 7800 Montgomery Rd Cincinnati, OH 45236 513-794-9440, Below is an online resource which will also benefit the Cincinnati nonprofit animal organization, Pet Alliance, if you use this link to go to Amazon: Http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0979074 No matter how you get the book, our discussion at our meetings will be much more productive and meaningful if you have read the entire book (204 pages). This book was a very easy/fast read for me as the topic is so important to me, and I am assuming the homeless animal welfare is also important to anyone who joined this group. Special thanks to Pet Alliance Meetup member, Kendra Herdtner, for assisting in creating the agenda for the Book Study. Just as each of you, Kendra has special skills that will be most helpful in our mutual mission to improve the fate of Cincinnati’s homeless animals. We will forward our meeting Agenda for either our physical and/or phone meeting(s) as soon as we determine dates and venues. Together We CAN Make The Difference! Sincerely, Anita Barron acbarron@petalliance.org 513-753-3270 |
