OK, Finally did it. I walked up to the service desk at Home Depot, and asked to speak to the Manager Of the Day. I explained that I am a Software Engineer out of work for over a year, and I assumed that if I applied online, the "Applicant Tracking System" would kick me out. The man told me that the HR person I needed to talk to had just left, but he dialed the HR person's voicemail. I was able to leave an actual message. My body language was terrible (on the phone, didn't matter), but I believe my message was on target.
