ECCO String Orchestra

THE FIFTH CONCERT ON OUR $10 PER CONCERT EXCURSION INTO THE PHILADELPHIA CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY SERIES!

Friends, you are going to LOVE this string orchestra.  I heard them a couple of years ago, and they were "the bomb"!

Overview

In 2001, a group of musicians – colleagues and friends from leading conservatories and music festivals across the country collectively – envisioned the creation of a democratically-run, self-conducted chamber orchestra that would thrive on the pure joy and camaraderie of classical music-making. ECCO is comprised of soloists, chamber musicians, members of major American orchestras, and GRAMMY award winners. For a few concentrated periods of time each year, the members of ECCO meet for rehearsal and musical exploration.

And a wonderful program too!

Mozart: Divertimento in B-flat Major, K. 137
Ludwig: Suite [Philadelphia Premiere]
Satie: Gymnopédies
Greenstein: Four on the Floor

Allow me to add my voice to the cheering section, saying happy birthday to Elisabeth, and adding that I enjoyed the pre-concert group dinner and chit-chat very much. ECCO was simply superb, and the program was captivating. See you all soon!

Thanks. I enjoyed meeting you. Two very nice modern composers in the mix, especially for you. Greenstein's Four on the Floor was just absolutely superb! I think that was the highlight of the evening.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! For our pre-concert dinner, we’ll be heading to Indeblue at 205 South 13th Street. Website: http://www.indebluerestaurant.com/philadelphia-pa. So far, I have Kia, Steve, Gwynne, and myself going. If others are interested, please let me know and I’ll update the reservation. The reservation, which is under my name is for 5:45 pm. That gives us sufficient time to have dinner and walk over to the Kimmel.

Would there be anyone coming from the suburbs by any chance for a possible carpool? I would appreciate it.

I would love to you join the group for dinner. I can probably get there by 6:00 pm if I hustle. I hope that's okay.

Friends, Very much looking forward to this program. I know a couple of the works. The "Divertimento" was one of three composed in 1772 which Mozart was the ripe old age of 16. Here's a link that explains what a divertimento is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divertimento

    … and here's a YouTube performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FydOAKtDuxo

Everybody has heard the Gymnopidies. The Gesualdo: Madrigal arrangement of one of his madrigals for voices should be interesting! Gesualdo was late 16th early 17th century composer known for extensive chromaticism (use of all 12 tones!). The treat of the evening will be a string orchestra arrangement of a gorgeous piece of music, the Ravel quartet, an early work written in 1903. I heard it on the radio today, pondering what it might sound like in a string orchestral arrangement, and then, reviewing the program, voila -- there it will be! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDOpPQ2rkf

Anyone interested in having dinner or drinks beforehand. I was thinking either Sampan or Vedge since they are both nearby, but I'm open to other suggestions.

I would love to have dinner before hand! Please let me know if there are others joining! If not, I will be happy to go with you!
