Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

  • This location is shown only to members

  • First published in 1969, Slaughterhouse-Five is widely considered to be one of the world's greatest anti-war books. Interestingly, Vonnegut suggests in chapter one that writing an anti-war book makes as much sense as writing an anti-glacier book, both being unstoppable forces. Whether Vonnegut believed that war was truly an unavoidable force of nature or this was simply the heart of the satire which follows is one of the great debates that continue to swirl around the novel to this day.

Are we still planning to meet on the 17th? I don't see a new meetup posted.

17th works for me. See you all then.

    Are we on or postponed?

I am okay with doing it since Jessica's house is within walking distance for me. Tonight or next week is fine with me.

Thanks, Angie. The 17th is fine for me.

I'm seeing reports that the roads are going to be icy this evening and as much as I would love to see you all, I don't want anyone to risk unsafe driving conditions for bookclub. Does the 17th work for everyone? Most importantly, does the 17th work for you, Jess?

I won't be able to attend tonight due to the weather. But I'd be OK with Tuesday the 17th.

I read the book and am very eager to meet with this club. I think, the weather, though, is prohibitive. I am with next Tuesday.

It's light in Jersey and not really sticking. I will be riding around today on appts. in Jersey....so i can give you an update. I will also check weather on radio and computer. However, I think many folks are in walking distance....or can take the train....perhaps the show should just go on!

I'm concerned about the weather since tonight might be icy and parking a problem due to plowed snow. I'd be fine with next Tuesday if others are.

Looks like it'll be clearing up this afternoon, then snow again in the evening. How about next Tuesday Dec. 17th?

I am fine with having it tonight since I can walk to Jessica's house, but if other people want to postpone it, that's fine too. I won't be here Dec 14-31, but you can always meet without me...

The snow is still coming down hard, so I thought I should at least pose the question: postpone tonight's meeting or brave the elements? I know at least a couple of people have longish drives and might not be able to make it. The trains have been running well in spite of the weather, so I'll be there if we decide to go ahead. What does everyone think?
