Carlos Fuentes was a Mexican novelist and essayist whose writings helped usher in the Latin American Boom of the 1960s and 1970s. The Death of Artemio Cruz is widely regarded as Fuentes' seminal novel. Heavily influenced by the film Citizen Kane, Fuentes attempted to construct literary parallels to the ground-breaking camera effects (such as cross-cutting and deep focus) that Wells introduced in Kane.
