View a film about fracking: discussion and action steps

Save The Date! On Friday evening, November 11th at 7:15 p.m., the Green Sanctuary Committee will show Water Isn't Water Anymore, a documentary about hydrofracking in USG’s Assembly Room (upper level) and provide a few munchies. Afterward, Sandy Folzer, chair of Weavers Way Environmental Committee, will lead a discussion. Sandy and USG member Jill Murray will also explain a few action steps you can take to help ensure that our Pennsylvania water remains safe. The farmers-turned-filmmakers are Jeff and Jodi Andrysick from New York State. In 2010, a gas corporation planned to inject 3/4 billion gallons of toxic brine into an abandoned gas well near their bucolic town of Pulteney, only a 1/2 mile from pristine Keuka Lake. On Super Bowl Sunday, almost 500 people showed up on a frigid winter day at the Pulteney fire hall to say, “No! We won't accept your toxic brine disposal well!” The gas company rescinded its application. The Andrysicks then took almost $10,000 in personal savings to make two documentaries that warn people that “hydro-fracking is an extreme technology used to get at extreme energy with potentially extreme consequences. The Andrysicks’ website is http://allfrackedup.c...
