Let's travel to Nicaragua, Germany and Santorini

Marco Polo Travelers-- we're planning our next gathering to show pictures and tell the tales of our travels...

Mary Carroll Donahoe takes you...
from the colonial town of Granada in Nicaragua to the seaside resort of San Juan del Sur.  We'll  enjoy a boat tour of the approximately 356-island archipelago that dots Lake Nicaragua, Central America’s largest lake with majestic volcanoes rising from the shoreline.

Hans Mueller takes you...

from Dresden to Berlin along Neisse and Spree on bicycle.

This trip takes us along the post WWII border between Germany and Poland through parts of Saxony, Brandenburg and Lusatia. The latter is a historical region in the center of Europe that is not well known abroad.  The country side is mostly plain with many surprising old towns, churches, castles, gardens and sites of historical interest.

Tom Tauber takes you to...
Santorini, arguably the most beautiful of all Greek islands,  a traveler's paradise, particularly if it is visited in the off-season and in leisure. The island is the remnant of an enormous volcanic explosion in the 16th century BCE that left only a huge caldera. The houses of a few picturesque towns, above all Fira and Oia, tumble down the sides of the caldera. With their blinding white paint they make for great photography. The churches, topped with blue domes and bell towers, and a few windmills, add a great visual and cultural touch.

Reservations need to be made for the dinner and gathering.  Click here to reserve your spot or call[masked]-5220.  For more information, visit the Geographical Society of Philadelphia ( Marco Polo Traveler's networking nights are listed under Special Events).  Meet-up Members get the special price of $40 including the presentations, dinner and a glass of wine.

It was a great night with rave reviews for the delicious dinner. Loved seeing all the new faces and there never seemed to lull in conversation--that is what happens when you talk travel!

GREAT TIME last night. I'm not sure when I'll ever get to Aabenraa, Denmark, but loved seeing it. Romania is now on the bucket list. The debate is on whether I'm heading to the base camp of Mt. Everest and fending off altitude sickness. Dinner was delicious and not a dull moment in conversation. Looking forward to the next one on Feb. 26th!
