Look for mushrooms!

I'm setting up this potential morel hunt even though I cannot be there. The park I picked has plenty of parking and hopefully easily accessible by many. The name of the park is Darby Creek Valley Park. The strange address are the park's coordinates since a street address doesn't seem to be available. You can enter that into Google maps and get directions that way. I tried it, it works.

The morels should be out there! I hope you find some!

So sorry that this didn't turned out as planned. I was hoping that we could schedule a meetup and the morels would be plentiful, the park easy to get to and those interested would come. Next time will be clearer all around. Sorry folks.

No one came. I was there and no one else was, or at least none that communicated. :-(

So sorry I didn't make it, I went out to leave and realized I had no car, my daughter took my car to the prom last night and never brought the car home. Tried to call her but she didn't pick up. Darn kids! I was so looking forward to going.

So, I think I'm very close, I got lost, but is everyone gone?

No mushrooms, no go. Hope we can do this again. Would love to pick morels.

So I am bit confused. Just to clarify: merry place park and Darby Creek Valley Park are two different parks. Which one are we actually meeting at? Is there going to be an organizer or someone knowledgeable about mushrooms at the meetup since whoever is organizing this is not going to be there?

Sorry I cannot attend till after the NJ Primary Election as husband, Bill Moore is Sheriff Candidate & we have "events" every day. Bill's trying to lower Property Taxes so seniors can stay in the neighborhoods & be "eyes and Ears" while we're at work

Haven't found any yet but I would assume around right now! it's been raining and nice weather too.

Hi! I've been wild mushroom foraging for 5 years now, and have been looking for a local network like this. Can't wait till it rains because it will be the start of the short season for morels this year. (my favorite wild mushie so far). Hope to join others with the same passion as me and share the knowledge that I have collected!

When do you think the morel season will start this year? Have you found any yet? I'm very interested...

So the we've had some heavy rain the last day or so and spring has sprung. Anyone up for some foraging this weekend?

Going foraging for the day sounds great. Not sure if I'll be able to do the overnight camping.

Are you suggesting meeting there to discuss mushrooms or is it a good place to forage?

If we catch a warm day, I'll go. It will be my first time with a book. Otherwise I have always just admired them or photographed them and envied those who could forage.

Today I purchased the NATIONAL AUDUBON SOCIETY FIELD GUIDE TO MUSHROOMS NORTH AMERICA @ Barnes and Noble for $20.95. It is quite substantial for a book that fits in my back pocket. It has a very well thought out method of leading you from a main category wherein you figure out sub-catagories before leading you to photos so that you can see that five or more mushrooms might fit that description, resulting in accurate identification. They then lead you to more detailed information including the location it would be found and it's measurements. It has 762 full photographs, over 250 Black and White illustrations and covers 703 species in detail with notes on hundreds more. I am not even a beginner gatherer yet, but this book impresses me. Check it out!

It is a great book. My favorite is by David Aurora : ALL THAT THE RAIN PROMISES AND MORE. His writing is fun, it has great pictures and it is small. He makes references to his much larger "MUSHROOMS DEMYSTIFIED" that has extensive keys for identification, also excellent.

Well equipped for camping and can easily put up an unprepared person.

I've seen loads of mushrooms of many kinds in Wissahickon Park.
Look up "800 W Walnut Lane, Philadelphia" on google maps. The fields south of Walnut Lane are the dog park and softball field. The wooded area between those fields and the creek was where I spotted several varieties about a month ago. Is it too late in the season now for mushroom hunting?

I'm no mushroom expert. As a matter of fact, I was using a 40 year old Mushroom Field Guide that I borrowed from the library to identify my findings. The only one I was sure of was Crowned Coral.

That area has a high density of...what I think are... Beech trees. Mushrooms grew profusely on these fallen trees.

Not yet! I found oysters and a huge chicken of the woods yesterday. Thanks for the map tip.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
