The October Robotics meetup is scheduled for Thursday the 17th. Let me know if you have anything you'd like to discuss of demo and I'll add you to the agenda.
I'm pleased to report that we have 191 members in our group. More importantly, our monthly attendance numbers continue to be strong.
I also wanted to let you know about a joint meetup of the PhillyPUG (Python User's Group) and Philly++ (C/C++ users group) which will include a talk on ROS - the open source robot operating system. ROS provides libraries and tools to make it easier to create software for robots. The talk will be given by Tom Panzarella, founder of Love Park Robotics, at NextFab on Tuesday October 15th (http://www.meetup.com/phillypug/events/143534992/). They will also be giving tours of the NextFab facility after the meetup.
Here are some links to tide you over until next week:
These guys are offering a new controller board based on the Parallax Propeller chip. It is intended for space-based projects and hence is radiation-hardened: http://www.solarsystemexpress.com/gravity-development-board-gdb.html (My wife saw these guys at a recent Philly TechBreakfast entrepreneurial meetup)
A guy named Mark came to one of our meetups a while ago to talk about his humanoid robot project (as some of you may remember). Here is what came of his project: http://makezine.com/2013/06/28/a-real-man-of-steel/
Here is a project that is fabricating an open-source life-size humanoid robot out of 3D-printed parts: http://www.inmoov.fr/
(I haven't forgotten about the past two meetup summaries- hopefully I can get to them before the next meetup!)
See you next week!
