Current issue is that the Raspberry Pi keeps having issues with serial devices that I'm trying to use to connect it to the Arduino. The red FT232RL is under test here... without much luck.
In the end the best way to get enough amps at 5v seems to be to just to put a 12v inverter with a power strip and plug power cubes into it. The previous solution using little 12v->5v switching power supplies was not capable of nearly as much as this easier to implement solution.
And yes, I know, more wire organization will be needed :-) Serial issue fixed tonight with the serial Arduino to RPi conection. I edited the Ping library as well to allow you to pass a timeout to the .fire() command, while it was waiting for a distance measurement it was holding everything else up for a whole second per ping sensor when they were not attached.
