Star Trek @ the Franlin Institute IMAX

Sorry for the short notice, fellow Trekkers, but we just learned that Star Trek (the most recent movie) is back at the Franklin Institute IMAX for a return engagement! Thank you to Meetup member Jenny for the heads-up! However, it turns out that this return engagement ends on Sunday, September 20. Nevertheless, this would be the perfect event for our second meetup!

Here's the official writeup:

From director J.J. Abrams ("Mission: Impossible III," "Lost," and "Alias"), producers Damon Lindelof and executive producers Bryan Burk and Jeffrey Chernov and screenwriters and executive producers Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman ("TRANSFORMERS," "MI: III") comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, "Star Trek," featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no one has gone before.

STAR TREK has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® through IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. With crystal clear, larger than life images and state-of-the-art digital surround sound, IMAX creates an environment that puts audiences in the movie. Audiences will "EXPERIENCE IT IN IMAX"—the most immersive cinematic experience around!

MPAA rating: PG -13 for sci-fi action and violence and brief sexual content
Running Time: 127 minutes, 40 seconds

I set the time for the 5:30 show. If anyone thinks the 8:00 show is more convenient, let me know. The movie only costs $9.00 by itself!

If you haven't seen it yet, you can go early and see Star Trek: The Exhibition beforehand!

Hope to see you there! Steady as she goes!

I ended up going at the last minute and not officially joining the "meetup", but I got some help with details in the flick with a gracious one who sat in the back row to understand what was going on. the movie? was fantastic. Absolutely perfect. I have to see it on a regular screen now. It was my first chance to see it. And thanks to meetup because otherwise I wouldn't have known it was playing at IMAX. Thanks!

The IMAX big screen was probably a little too big but it made for an interesting viewing experience! And, it was great to enjoy the fellowship of fellow Star Trek fans!

Enjoyed the movie and company. A little bit of a stiff neck with the movie.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
