  • This location is shown only to members

9 mi.  Class 2  Intermediate (Rolling hills and some rocks on trail)

DESCRIPTION:  Let’s get in shape with a loop hike over the hills of the lower Wissahickon to Laurel Hill. For those of you going on the Scotland excursion, this will be a good tune-up for the trip.  The route will be partly on trails, but partly on pavement taking us along the beautiful River Drives and over Falls Bridge and Strawberry Mansion Bridge.  Good views of the City from our lunch spot on Laurel Hill.

DETAILS:  Bring lunch and water and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes.  Refreshments after the hike.

DIRECTIONS: Meet at Walnut Lane Golf Course.  From the city, take Kelly Drive, Ridge Ave. (West), and right on Walnut Lane.  After crossing Henry Ave., turn left at the next corner (Magdalena St.) into the parking lot on the left.  For Google directions, use Walnut Lane and Magdalena St., Philadelphia, PA.

LEADER: Dave Scheid [masked]).  E-mail: [masked].

IMPORTANT: Per PTC standard practice you will be asked to sign a waiver when you arrive at the meeting place. Hikers are expected to follow the PTC hiking guidelines (http://philadelphiatrailclub.org). Please review the hike description and decide if it matches your abilities.

Inspiring combination of woods and water in Fairmount Park combined with lunch in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Great work in creating this hike, Dave!

Hi Diana! Dave just reminded me PTC has a "no dog on hikes" policy. If you don't mind me to say so I would not recommend to bring a Dachshund to this kind of hike, first bcs 9 miles is a lot for her short legs and also bcs the ground is too rocky and has lots of debris and she would end up getting hurt. I have a lil experience. BTW Muddy Pawz is a meetup hiking group for people with dogs.

Good question Marta! Will ask Dave, the hike leader to weigh in. I do the entries, and may have made a mistake. Thanks for noticing! Dave?
