Wilderness Survival

What would you do if you found yourself lost in the woods? Would you have the knowledge and skills to survive?

Back-country adventures can be beautiful and thrilling, but mother nature also has a violent and unpredictable side. After taking this course, you will be better equipped to handle some of the greatest threats that mother nature may throw in your direction.

This 6 hour survival course will teach you the necessary skills to combat (and survive) an adventure gone wrong. This survival course is designed for people of all physical levels, who enjoy the outdoors, as well as for those who wish to enhance their outdoor survival training. The course instructors are from the single, longest running search and rescue ranger school in the area, and have decades of experience teaching search and rescue, and survival.

You will learn survival psychology, water procurement, fire-building, mobility, map reading, navigation, avalanche rescue, shelter building, signaling and first-aid.

Upon completion of the course, you will have knowledge and practical skills training including:

  • how to find your way when lost;
  • how to start a fire without a fire starter;
  • what vegetation you can eat, when you've packed a little too light;
  • how to purify water/water filtration techniques, when you've drained your water bottle;
  • how to build a natural, emergency shelter, when a 2 hour hike turns into an overnighter;
  • how to read a topographical map; and
  • how to navigate via a compass and the land.

The course will cover basic and advanced equipment, with a strong emphasis on prevention and preparedness.

In a combination of classroom and practical training, you will get the most from your day and return ready to start your next adventure with confidence.

The course will be held at an outdoor location 30 minutes north of Reading. The address and directions will be provided directly to registered participants.

This course could make the difference between saving your life and the lives of your friends.

    Kind of glad it's going to be a little wet. Hope we learn techniques on starting a fire in wet conditions. Survival doesn't always happen when it's sunny!

      You just need to fill out the same profile on the TerraMar website as you did for this meetup group. That and payment is all that is required to sign up.

    This sounds like a really fun time-bushcraft and survival training make for a great time in the wilderness. Esp. if you like to pack light. Btw, if anyone is looking for a good knife (as Rx'ed on the list), I know Moraknives from Sweden does a fantastic bush knife for about $15. You can find them on amazon. Any other gear allowed/recommended?
