Kelly's Run Hike with Gorgeous cascades and Heart Pounding Vistas!

  • May 19, 2013 · 10:00 AM

Do you think you have seen it all in Pennsylvania?   Well, here is a new one for you!  We are constantly searching for cool places to hike and, having hiked as many miles as we have, its not always easy to impress a TerraMar guide.

But, I found a new hike I had never been on before this summer that wowed me.  So, of course, I cannot wait to share it with you.

We are going to Kelly's Run, where we will hike down into a beautiful gorge cut though the mountains where towering cliffs follow a meandering creek over a series of pretty little cascades as it makes its way into the Susquehanna.

Of course, what goes down must go up and I am happy to report that we have a great heart pounding climb in this hike.  It is not that long, but it will get you sweating as you climb up to three beautiful vistas.  The third (pictured above) has sweeping views of the Susquehanna.

After the hike we will hit up one of my favorite restaurants in all of south east pa. Buffalo burgers can be paired with your favorite post hike beer. Many other specialty items and craft beers will be on tap, there truely is something for everyone!

Payment: To submit payment, either pay by check or pay by credit card via our website., http://www.terramaradventures.com. Visit the event page here and click on "register." It'll walk you through paying.

If you don't have a user ID on the site yet,  go here and become a member.

Price includes: Hike with guides certified in wilderness first aid. The first 15 people to submit payment are the 15 who go on the hike. A "yes" RSVP on the meetup site doesn't guarantee you a spot.

I just signed up. I trust that I'll get them...

Your main problem on this hike depending on the weather will be either dirt or mud. There are no thorn bushes or contend with and we will be under the trees for most of the hike. So bring layers as appropriate, a decent set of shoes with good tread, a bottle of water, and whatever you would normally bring to a day outside.

What kind of hiking apparel does one need for this?

    May 15, 2013

  • Lorraine D. B.

Hi. Is this hike for beginners? I am looking forward to hiking but thus would be my first hike- as beautiful it sounds, I went to begin on a level sites for beginners. Is there a way a novice can do this?

    May 11, 2013

    • Brett

I would say this hike depends more on your fitness level than your hiking ability. Its about average as far as length, but there are some serious non-techical ascents we need to do. There are several stream crossings on rocks, so long as you are comfortable with all that and you're in good physical shape I think you can do it. But if anything I wrote here concerns you I'd wait for an easier hike.

what is the fitness level for this kind of activities?

    May 5, 2013

    • Brett

This hike has a good combination of easy hiking and hardcore climbs straight up a hillside. There will be sections where were doing stream crossings on rocks. on a scale of 0 - 10, with 10 being Terramar's hardest hike, I'd rate this one a 7 in terms of fitness level.

Brett - I think I see the same thing Sara sees on the Event Page. That page shows the number registered but doesn't show out of those how many have paid. I've been trying to send payment on the site but can't find where? R we supposed to pay at the event? How do we reserve our spot?

    April 26, 2013

  • Sara

Looks like it is full already...no spots left on the event page.

    1 · April 26, 2013

    • Brett

Sara we have 15 spots for this hike. As of right now there are plenty of spots left. If you follow the Event Page Link above it will tell you how many people have paid. http://www.terramarad...

The $15 fee helps pay for the training that the terramar guides receive. Every guide is certified in wilderness firstaid, navigation, survival techniques and most receive a lot more training then that. This is what makes the Terramar Guides the best in the area. We also scout out each hike before hand so we spend our time enjoying the views and not looking at maps and backtracking. The group also has promotion of events and community activities to cover. If any of you would like to know more feel free to email me directly and I can go into more detail.

I hope to see you all there this hike is always a big hit!

This is a great spot; I've hiked here often - but, just curious -- what exactly is the $15 fee all about?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
