Mountain Climbing and Pie - Mount Minsi

  • Aug 3, 2013 · 10:00 AM

Skill Level: 5 - Includes 1000 ft elevation change. You must be able to hike uphill for 1.5-2 hours with reasonable breaks.

Description: Join us for our most popular hike of all time. We're heading back to the Delaware Water Gap and to my favorite bakery in the state!  This week's hike is up to the top of Mount Minsi on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap.  It is a great hike along the Appalachian Trail, with thick woods, steep climbs and beautiful views.  It's the perfect length for a fun summer hike.

After the hike, it'll be a good thing we just exercised because we'll be on to the most perfect piece of pie heaven you will ever find. I love pie and this little shop is one of the most beautiful tributes to life well lived I can ever imagine. Pie everywhere: apple pie, pecan pie, peanut butter pie, shoo fly pie, chocolate walnut pie, pumpkin pie. Imagine a farmer's market where every single table is absolutely covered with pies.

Payment: To submit payment, either pay by check or pay by credit card via our website., Visit the event page here and click on "register." It'll walk you through paying. If you don't have a user ID on the site yet,  go here and become a member.

Price includes: pie and guides certified in wilderness first aid. The first 15 people to submit payment are the 15 who go on the hike. A "yes" RSVP on the meetup site doesn't guarantee you a spot.

We have payments from:

We've capped this hike at 15 people. Why do we put a limit on the number of people for hikes? Three reasons; safety, conservation and fun. We limit the number to promote safety. We limit the number to promote Leave No Trace principles. Though many of the trails we take are very well established, we want to limit our impact on the environment. So, it is much better for us to go in with 15 people and not tromp 50 in all at once. Finally, we limit the number of people because we believe bringing a giant heard of people into the woods ruins one of the fundamental reasons we go into the woods, the peace and intimacy of nature. Large groups are loud and intrusive both to animals and to other people seeking a serene, quiet experience. Thanks for understanding!

Carl, what is the expected time to be finished with the hike and ready to head home or to be back in Philly. I'd love to go but have something at 430 (seqway thing) that has been planned with a bunch of friends for a long time.

It would be pushing it. You can be done by 2 or so. But, nothing is guaranteed timing wise.

Water Gap Pies!!!... Oh yeah.. my mandatory stop off point after a long paddle. I believe ...after 500 pies, one actually assumes "stockholder" status. Get in line! :D Climb well, and eat hearty!!

I will try to make it when a date is confirmed. I've never tried climbing before so not sure if you need experience.

What makes you think a date is not confirmed? Did I make a mistake in posting? It is supposed to be August 3.
