Beer University - Beer 101

Beer has come a long way since college.  Remember when beer was an "acquired taste"?  Haha.  That is because you were drinking awful beer.  Natty light and Golden Anniversary just will not cut it any more.  The craft beer movement has blown that kind of beer consumption out of the water.  Now, there are so many well made and varied beers available that there is no excuse for drinking a beer you do not love.

So, it is time to start educating your pallet so you can savor and enjoy beer.  Join use for a trip to Beer School! We will be exploring a whole series of topics this winter.  Beer 101, our first class, will explore the fundamentals of beer, including ingredients, how varying the proportions affect the flavor, color, and taste, and the basics of brewing.

Jay, our instructor, was the guy who taught all of the bartenders, servers and staff at your favorite Starr restaurants about beer and alcohol before venturing out on his own.  So, he knows his beer and can guide you to expertise as well.

Best of all, this is a hands on experience.  Classes include a 90 minute overview of beer, including beer sampling, food pairings, and “educational material.”  Our curriculum for the evening includes tasting of:

Allagash White paired with Growlers Beer Mussels

Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale

Victory Golden Monkey

Troeg's Troegenator paired with Cabot Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Stone IPA paired with Growlers Wings

Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter paired with a chocolate espresso bread pudding

Do not delay, this is a class you do not want to miss.
