Dogfish Head Brewery Tour & World Championship Punkin' Chunkin'

  • Nov 2, 2013 · 10:45 AM

Join us for a full day of fun on Saturday, November 2nd!

We will start our day at the Dogfish Head Brewery for a tour and tasting.  It is hard for me to imagine a better way to start the day!

After the tour, there will be food at a food truck and more delicious craft beer for sale.

Following our brewery tour and tasting, we’ll caravan over to a Delaware farm, for the region’s (and perhaps the world’s) largest pumpkin launching contest.  You’ll have the opportunity to watch as a collection of the region’s greatest minds put their hand-built and powered contraptions to the ultimate launching test:  “chunking” 8-10 pound pumpkins as far as they will go (and hopefully, farther than you could have imagined possible).  The record distance for the adult air launch is a whopping 4,500 feet.  This is a world championship you don’t want to miss!

Should you grow weary of watching the launching of the pumpkins (a/k/a the “chunk”), you can wander around the farm grounds to watch various musical performers as they take the stage, visit the booths of vendors selling their crafts and sample some of the best fair food from 18 local food vendors. Saturday’s events culminate with a sunset fireworks show (weather permitting).

The event goes on all day (rain or shine). We recommend that you pack a blanket and/or camping chair, and dress for the season.  We suggest that you wear layers to keep warm and sneakers to navigate the farm grounds.

And, perhaps most importantly, don’t forget your ID!

Spots are limited. You are only counted as coming if you register and pay.  Once registered details on meeting will be provided to you.

Jill my iPhone will not allow me to reply to your post. Besides the "aggressive" NY driving, cursing of other motorists, and poor sing-along to the radio (usually off key) I'm not a bad driver. I will meet you guys at the Dogfish and anyone can ride down with me to Delaware.

Is anyone carpooling for this event? I live in Cherry Hill but can meet in Philly or somewhere else if need be!

I'm sorry I can't help out with carpooling. I'm going to the Pumpkin Chunkin fest grounds early Friday and staying for the weekend. There are a few other people signed up for the event but it's completely up to them if they want to carpool. It will be a long day so some people might want to leave before others. I hope you decide to come either way since it will be lots of fun!

Is anyone carpooling? I haven't committed through the Terramar website yet due to the long distance.I'm absolutely willing to chip in for gas & tolls.

Since I moved down here, a few years back, I always wanted to see the pumpkin fly. I think my inner nerd is coming out.
