Hike and Brew Series # 3 - Troegs - Only 1 Spot Left!

  • Feb 1, 2014 · 10:00 AM

Our region is one of the luckiest in the nation because we have an abundance of great craft beer brewers in our own back yard!  Nothing goes down easier after a nice heart pounding hike than a cold brew. Hike number 3 in our hike and brews series brings us to Troegs.

Join us for a fun, winter hike through the woods of the Appalachian Mountains.  This hike is good, solid exercise. The trail really assaults the slope for the first mile.  I guarantee you will be sucking wind.  Most of the climbing is accomplished in that first mile.  It is definitely worth it though as the following 2.5 miles are chock full of vistas.  We will hike about 5.5 miles through a course that loops up the mountain, along the ridge and back down to our cars.  The total elevation gain for the day is about 1000 feet.  So, there will be times when your heart is pounding and you break a little sweat.

Then, we will caravan to Troegs Brewing Company for a tasting.  We have done a couple tours already.  So, for Troegs, the tour is optional.  Great times are not.  You will receive a free tasting flight. Plus, they have a great "snack bar" with some of the fanciest sandwiches and apps you will find.  Troegs is well known in the Philadelphia region as for their full range of beers.  Perhaps most famous for Mad Elf, they have every style under the sun.

So, join me, get in a great hike and most certainly try out some great beers.

Hi - I'm interested in the hike since the date was postponed, but the description doesn't say where it is or how long the plan is to be out.

Carl, I'm in. I haven't done anything with this group yet. Do I still follow the instructions to sign up and pay?

Due to Driving Conditions we had to postpone this hike to January 26. I look forward to seeing you then.

    Carl, I can't do 1/26...

Really looking forward to the hike tomorrow! Carl, do you recommend tall hiking boots or even warmer winter boots that have good traction? Both are waterproof. I'll probably bring both and decide when I arrive. I've hiked this area before (unsure exactly if it's the same route) but never in the winter.

You want as much traction as you can get.

Philadelphia is a sheet of black ice!!! Hope the trail is a bit more navigable.

Looks like rain...what happens to the $30 if I cancel? Driving two hours to slosh through rain may not be what I want for Sunday.

    January 4, 2014

    • Carl E.

right now there is only a 20-30% chance of rain. That is a 70-80% chance of good weather. So, we are still planning on going. I will reevaluate in the morning.

Sherri, the report has cleared. 0% chance of rain this morning. http://www.weather.co...

Good news folks. Weather has shifted and they now are predicting a 0% chance of rain all morning. We should be off the mountain before there is any chance of rain. http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/graph/Hershey+PA+USPA0710:1:US
