The Hike and Pie has been one of our most popular hikes. So, when exploring the wilds of PA I stumbled upon this delicacy of sweetness, I knew I had to make it an official expedition.
Ladies and Gentleman, the Brownie Pizza! That is a brownie crust, with ice cream base and then toppings like caramel, peanut butter cups or cookie dough. This is no ordinary ice cream shop, it is all homemade and they really know their craft.
I have never before sampled this creation because I knew I could not handle it alone. So, I need to recruit at least 6 other brave souls to find and conquer the brownie pizza!
Of course, we will make you earn it first with some heart pounding hiking. Let's hope that it stays warm in the mountains and we get a couple summer showers in the week before, because, if it rains a little, this trail will be spectacular.
We will be following the Northkill Creek and its tributaries up Blue Mountain to Sandy Spring. There are no grand vistas from the Sandy Spring trail, only countless little mountain streams. With rain and warm weather, the streams should be babbling.
After we reach the Sandy Spring, we will take the Tom Lowe trail back down for a nice 5ish mile loop. This trail winds up and down the walls of a shallow gorge for a total elevation gain of about 850 feet. All in all, it should take us 2-3 hours.
Make sure you bring shoes you do not mind getting wet. We will cross many little streams and the Northkill Creek may be high enough that you will have to wade.
This hike is limited to 15 people. Only the first 15 to pay get to go.
